3.Liga is the first of the professional leagues in Germany to resume after the winter break this Friday. So I think I can show the actual standings for it this time:

Very unusual to see 2 clubs from the little federal state Saarland at the top of the table.
Can't remember when (or if) this happened before (in tier 1-3 leagues).
OK, Saarbrücken at #2 isn't that surprising but Elversberg at #1 really is. And that they are already 8 pts ahead (and 10 to #3 and #4) is even more remarkable as a new promoted club from the Regionalliga.
In their 115 years of existence they never played higher than 3rd tier, so a Bundesliga 2 promotion would be a first for them.
3.Liga starts again friday with a relegation battle #17 Zwickau vs #16 Oldenburg

Last time I looked at the 3Liga 1860 were smashing teams 4-0. Now they're 6th.

They're still in the race for #2 or #3, though. Biggest disappointment so far is, imo, Dynamo Dresden. After they lost the relegation playoffs for Bundesliga2 against Kaiserslautern many expected them to dominate 3.Liga this season.
The same for Aue. Only Ingolstadt from the 3 relegated Bundesliga 2 clubs with a good 1st half of the season. But 3.Liga has 38 matchdays instead of the 34 of the Bundesliga, so it's still 21 matches to play.

Haven't given up on promotion just yet. Just 3 points behind Saarbrücken and the players have had a proper break to regroup. I hope both sides will remain close to each other as I'm planning to go to the away game in late April.

1860 with another loss, 1-3 at Waldhof Mannheim. Now the 5th game in a row without a win (0-1-4).
Waldhof is the best home team in the league, though (but also the worst away team). They won 27 of their now 29 points at home

The top2 also lost (#1 Elversberg with 0-1 at #3 Wiesbaden (now #2) and #2 Saarbrücken with 2-3 at home against Duisburg. 2 late goals for the Saarländer came too late).

Last Buli game Bayern played 6 players out of position and won.
Shows how bad Schalke is I guess

In the meantime, we have 2 new additions

    1. Daley Blind

Signed from Inter on a free in the January transfer window. Nice backup for Davies (we didn't have any before I mean Hernandez is more of a CB) How good is he @StretfordEnd?

    2. Ibrahimovic (Not that one)
Arijon Ibrahimovic was subbed on in a 4-4 draw vs Salzburg. He scored. A few days later, he was promoted to the first team from the 2nd team. 3rd/4th choice no 10

Around £8 or €10 million Sky have reported , good cash for Gladbach for a 34 year old though the back up bloke end last season was shite , would have been better playing rush goalie hope they've signed someone else & keep Thuram as reports he's off as well .

Good move for Sommer. 8 1/2 years at Gladbach, winning nothing. A few months at Bayern winning German Championship, Cup and CL (the last 2 a "maybe" ;) ).

And Gladbach gains a bit money for him, otherwise he could go for free in the summer. Looks like he's getting a contract until 2025

Will be interesting to see when Manuel Neuer comes back in the new season. If Sommer plays like in the Bundesliga (especially against Bayern in the last few games where he was phenomenal) it will be hard for Neuer to get back his place. (If Sommer plays like in the 1-6 against Portugal in the WC 1/8 finals then there is no competition, though.)

kicker.de reports that they are close to sign a keeper from French club Montpellier, also a Swiss. Let's see. Normally Swiss keepers are very reliable and good like Kobel, Sommer (and even Bürki had his moments at BVB back then).

If Yann Sommer signs today then I think he'll be Goalkeeper.

Game will be shown in German Free TV tomorrow because it's the start of the 2nd half of the season. Nowadays only a few Bundesliga games are shown on Free TV (opening match, end of 1st half, begin of 2nd half) the rest only on Pay TV available (Sky, DAZN...)

edit: HSV won yesterday a friendly against the Vancouver Whitecaps from the MLS with 2-0 ;)
Only 8 days (ok 10 days for HSV) for Bundesliga 2 to return.

Good move for Sommer but I can't see Neuer retiring his #1 jersey just yet. He's not as good as he used to be but is Sommer better? I personally don't think so. Still, as Dirk correctly argued, he'll finally win something so I reckon he'll settle for that.
What do we make of Neuer's pre-retirement years? Reckon he'll stay at Bayern. Can't go back to Schalke, he'd get killed!

I can see Omlin playing for Gladbach. Not Sommer good but solid.

Half an hour to go before Leipzig/Bayern. PSG are very boring to watch (we played a marketing coup of a game in Saudi Arabia on Thursday, was out drinking but apparently we were rubbish. AGAIN!) so gonna give Bayern a go see how the tie will shape up. Looking forward to it.

Yeah, they'll get relegated and I doubt he'll want to play in the 2 Buli...

It was a 1-1 draw. Not too pissed with the result, I said it would be the hardest game this season.
More upset with how Sane and Gnabry started on the opposite flanks. Maybe an experiment to play Sane Mane in the future?
