Think they're paying the first installment and that's it.

    Seems fair all round IMO.

Unless people want to split c*nthairs for 40 pages, it's pretty plain to see.

They are paying up so I'd say time to put it to bed and move on.

It's a shame but life goes on.

If you bought a new car and it was smashed up on route to your house on the delivery van would you pay for it?

Seems weird they have to pay imo.

Don't want to disrespect the lad in anyway.

If the car is legally theirs while it is on the way to being delivered then it would be the new owners insurers responsibility I assume. So I am quite surprised Cardiff aren’t paying all of it?

Cardiff have confirmed they are appealing this decision.

    Quite unimpressed by their decision.

    Poor form from Cardiff that.

I get the initial dispute - but if he was registered as their player, they should pay 'something' - and a third of the agreed fee seems pretty reasonable to me.

Have Nantes disputed the ruling and demanding the full fee?

I personally think the two clubs should have agreed to £5m-ish that was ruled, and both agreed to donate it to a charity/some to his family or something. Use it as a way to form good ties between the two clubs while gaining some good 'PR' in the world of football.

I know £5m is not to be sniffed at in the real world, but in footballing terms it's not a huge sum in this day and age - especially when a couple of people lost their lives.

It's a shame that we are appealing this decision.

Regardless of weather or not he was our player at the time, the poor lad lost his life as did the pilot. Two families have been ripped apart by the whole thing and considering that neither of the clubs in question are tight on money, should just come to a compromise both sides and finally let the families deal with what has happened.

Yeah so from what I've read, this ruling means that Cardiff will have to pay the full fee.

The £5.7 million is the first installment, so is all that is due at the moment.

They will be liable to pay the future installments further down the road, unless they win their appeal.

I can understand them appealing if it's the full fee.

If it's just the £5.7m then that's really poor.

Just split the original fee down the middle and be done with it FFS.

I love the way fans from other clubs are telling us just to pay up and be done with it. There's not a money man on the planet that would hand over 20p if they didn't have to. And that includes the squillionaires who own all the top clubs.
As I see it, if he wasn't a registered player with us, then the insurance (which I assume was in place for him) would not pay up. Also, people keep mentioning his family, well the money FIFA have told us to pay is going to Nantes, not the family. And one more thing, the player was offered by Cardiff City a scheduled flight from Paris to Cardiff but was persuaded to take this plane back by his agent so we are told. It's all very sad, but I feel our club has done everything for the good of the our club, not Nantes.

    This is from the Guardian:

"The lawyers said that the ruling meant Cardiff would be liable for the next two instalments when they are due on 1 January 2020 and 2021, but that they expected Cardiff to take the argument to Cas, as did Fifa."

So it will be the full fee if this ruling is upheld, so it does make a lot of financial sense to appeal it.

£5.7 million is a big hit to take for a Championship club, but even more so when they would then owe the same figure again in January.

    Simply not true.

Sporting hooligans stormed their training ground and attacked and threatened players. Our goalie and several others tore up their contracts citing an unsafe working environment. We could've played hardball but negotiated a transfer fee with Sporting and did the honourable thing.

This tragedy could have united the two clubs in a similar way to Bradford and Lincoln but a team who received over ten times the amount of money in TV revenue last season and tens of millions more in parachute payments has decided "nah"

I feel for the supporters the most because the Sala songs seem to be completely sincere but I could never agree with my clubs owners acting that way.

To an extent perhaps, but the argument you used to get out of paying was that he was never your player.

It's been ruled that he was your player, and now your club is going to measures of accusing Nantes of manslaughter to try and delay the inevitable transfer fee, it's embarrassing and shameful.
