It's aimed at attracting new fans who have never watched cricket before but feel it's just a shorten venison of T20

The same people who enjoy that will go to this except the teams are pretty random and no real connections to the counties.

I would think yet another format of the game is a gimmick too far? Test, One Day, T20 and now Hundred, is there really enough demand for all this cricket? I suspect in the next 3 or 4 years one of them will have to go.

Yeah, it really feels like they are wanting a different sort of supporter than what we see at one-dayers and T20s, to the point of them even 'banning' Sweet Caroline at games because they don't want to entice drunks (I don't think these were the words they used but it amounted to that)

We were probably saying the same nigh on 20 years ago when T20 appeared. My worry remains that it will come at the detriment to the longer formats of the game. You only have to look at the difference in crowds at T20/One day county games compared to the 4 day format to see that county's will be more interested in the short game from a financial point of view. If 4 day cricket starts to disappear at club level, then test cricket will follow because no-one will know how to play a game of cricket for longer than a day

I can still remember the Nat West trophy when the game was sixty overs per side. Matches started at 10:30 and September's final often finished in the dark. It's been innovation after innovation since that competition ended and although most new formats have worked the ICC seem determined to tinker over and over (with less overs). I doubt they'll be many dot balls in the Hundred which could mean low scores with batsmen trying to hit every ball into whatever river is behind the main stand..

England have announced the squad for the first two tests against India. Haseem Habeeb is in there, probably just as cover for Duck Sibley but it's a start..

Oh, and Ollie's back. He celebrated his recall by tweeting "Im back so you can all **** off".

Not impressed, it's jazzed up cricket with lurid graphics, i'm only staying with the first game to watch Somerset born batsman Jos Butler in action.

Yes the graphics have caused quite a stir !

This game isn’t the slog feast they probably hoped for .

The Warwickshire reserves almost beat the Welsh in a low scoring game.
Watched a bit of the 100, those crowds are encouraging for cricket whatever the format, right?

I think they almost went 30 seconds without a flashy gimmick earlier. This isn't the future of cricket, it's dumbed-down cricket for people who have their hats on backwards.

If that Old Trafford pitch had have been in India we'd all be complaining now. Even Ben Stokes called it horrific.

I'm not at all interested in 'TheHundred' but I gave it a go over the weekend and it did nothing to change my opinion.
    • Branding, the green and pink on the black is garish on the 'scoreboard'. Shocker to whatever design agency came up with that.
    • How many screen widgets does it need?
    • Overs, I couldn't help but continually try to work out the over rate that was being set or required.
    • "Six, YEAHHHH!" (or whatever it said that flashed up every time).
If 20/20 isn't straight forward enough for the new audience they are trying to recruit. I cant see how new fans of TheHundred will ever transfer over into other formats of the game.

It's all too American for my liking with seeing "Yeah" on the screen when someone hits a six the thing that annoys me the most. :angryfire
