    Needs to slow down.

MVG has slowed his pace and seems to be hitting his mark here.

Did Smith just do a ten darter finish there? Not watching it but looking at scores on Flashscores.

I well thought a 9 darter was coming then.

    Well done, Lad.

It wasn't the greatest ever final, the quality dipped in the second half and the margin of victory was convincing in the end. Still a very good one though. Might have had one of the greatest moments ever though.

    12, missed two doubles.

Fair f*cks to Bully Boy. I guess everyone who said he’d win a lot once got that first major can be pretty smug right now. Brilliant performance.

Yeah must admit I thought MVG would win easily but his Smith loved with him at the start and then when MVG had a dip in the middle, Smith was ruthless in hammering him and winning 4 sets in a row and taking the match away from him. It would have been interesting if MVG had won that last set and made it 6-5, and he probably should have done. But he threw a poor leg with the throw at the wrong time and Smith hammered home his advantage in the final leg and didn't give MVG a sniff of a break with that 12 darter.

This post was from 23rd November - one day I'll back my gut and put money on the darts (though I suspect he wasn't great odds).

Smith was outstanding in that match. As always, if you keep with MVG he will start to give you chances, you've just got to take them. Smith hitting that 9 darter showed MVG that Smith was at his level. When MVG couldn't shake Smith off, he overthought things and Smith just kept consistent.

Fair play to him, he was fantastic, and is a deserved champion. Winning the GSOD really got the monkey off his back and the fact he only missed one match dart, pegging the second, shows how calm he was.

11 darter - he missed D16 inside, then hit D8 next dart.

MVG yesterday.. "nobody can stop me" Michael Smith.."hold my beer" Get the fk in:disco Totally deserved it, MVG buckled by constant pressure. Best player won. MVG moaned at end that he didn't play and missed darts....yes he was the bottler tonight. Thrilled for Michael Smith, who just seems like a genuine lad, but what a talent! commiserated with MVG at missing the nine, then nails his own like a champion. Taxi for "gret head"

My bad, could have sworn he’d missed one at D8 too!

Have never been a huge Smith fan if I’m honest but the way he’s spoken in victory the last few months has been very impressive, and no one can deny that he is thoroughly deserving. Comes across as a nice guy off the ochre. Good for him and his family.

And I know MVG has his moments on the oche but I will say that in defeat he is, in his own words, phenomenal. Was the same with Wright a few years back.

That leg will never be topped, though. I know Mardle can be a bit marmite on comms for people but that leg showed why I love him

Honestly rewatched that leg a dozen times now already

Best part about it is it was genuinely an important point in the match too. Without winning it Smith probably goes 2-0 down and it’s a completely different game.

    What a ****ing glorious sport.

I’m really pleased for Smith as I remember watching last years final and he was so much better than Peter Wright for most of that final but somehow found a way to lose it and after how well he played tonight (apart from a wobble near the end) it would’ve been a travesty had he not won.

Never seen before both players going for a nine darter and the first one misses on his final throw which lets the second player get a perfect score. Unbelievable Jeff.

Chuffed for the big man winning his first World Title.
