Well to be fair some of the putts were unlucky. Mcilroy deserved it. Played well all 4 days. But well done to smith
That's the second best back 9 day 4 on a major I've seen in the past decade I think. Unbelievable. Rory was in complete control and then him and Hovland seemed to go into this stupid match play game and let Smith back in. Rory missed so many putts today. Is he ever going to win a major again?
Na. Had a bad over par day yesterday. Mcilroy played all 4 days well including today. I'm not just saying that because it's Mcilroy. I've always thought the guy that comes from nowhere after playing ok the days before doesn't really deserve it. I know Smith only had one bad day but still
I don't think there was much of a difference really. Smith just putted better the back nine. Mcilroy had some very gettable putts
Ah well mcilroy already has an open. The masters is the one he really wants and the best in most fans opinion I'd say.
Doesn't deserve it? sorry that's bollox mate, he got the lowest score over the 4 rounds, not really come from nowhere as he was figuring. Mcilroy didn't play that well today for me. Smith is a deserved winner coming back from an iffy 3rd round where others might crumble. In fact, Mcilroy wasn't even runner up, without Smith he still doesn't win. Mcilroy won't win masters either.
They should really spread out the majors more in golf or even better have more majors so that there's not such a long wait for another. Maybe one in Asia, Australia, Africa and South America. Seen as that is how players are judged at the end of their careers and it being such a hard thing to win even if you are a top player it only seems fair. Tennis is different because only a few players have a real chance at victory every year down through the years. You can't even really get close to predicting who will win a golf major not since Woods anyway. Not sure he would've won as many if he was starting his career now though with such a strong field every tournament
Well mcilroy needed to hole that one in the end so he had to go for the Eagle. Mcilroy did play well. He had a good few birdie chances that clipped the hole. Smith just went for it on the back 9 because he had to and he gained momentum from it. Might have been better for mcilroy if he started in the second group or at least minus 13. Look well done to Smith and he won so I suppose he deserves it but mcilroy was better for 4 days. Golf is one the cruelest sports there is when it comes to losing. I wouldn't bet a euro on a golf tournament
Rory did play very well and was on top of his game for 3 rounds. Today though, I'm sorry but he was just too conservative and was holding back rather than going for it. Granted he lost to a cracking back 9 from Smith but that said, Rory bailed out too much today and missed way to many putts.
Can’t argue with Smith winning. Cracking round of golf, and he’s been knocking on the door since the Covid Masters really. Good for him. McIlroy got a bit unlucky at points but I agree with the assumption that he was a bit too conservative today. I preferred the schedule when the PGA was in August to be fair. One a month goes far too quickly
This was on Sky too. Henrik Stenson to join Liv golf and be stripped of his captain role for the Ryder Cup. https://www.golfmagic.com/liv-golf/...ser-liv-golf-and-being-axed-ryder-cup-captain
McIlroy only himself to blamey, trying to do a Nick Faldo and par his way to a title. Cameron Smith played exciting attacking golf and deservedly won.
I think that's a bit unfair. He had some great birdie chances. Chances that were as close as smiths last few birdies. They weren't even bad putts. A couple clipped the hole
