Huge news. These takeovers at the top of the league sometimes can have a pretty seismic shift on the landscape of the league. Of course, nothing could happen but we all saw how many parties wanted to buy Chelsea. Bought for £300m....probably getting close to £5bn if they sell.
Wow, expected the day to come eventually but didn't see it coming now. I'm.perfectly content with them going, they were strong owners for the most part. The Super League bullshit was however ridiculous. And so glad to see a change is going to happen. One less American owner in the league, but who takes over? And will they be just as keen on the SL idea. Will they be morally heinous? Though the statement from FSG doesn't read as "for sale".
Ownership is the single biggest factor in whether you win anything. It's all about the money and you need people who are committed to spending or you have no chance. So it's a big moment indeed for any club.
I know they didn't want to spend the anticipated cash on Bellingham but putting the club up for sale seems a bit extreme!
Just checking my bank account to see if I can afford a little bid Surprised by this, hopefully no dodgy human rights abusing Arabs buy the club, sadly I think it'll be the case or maybe another American owner.
The statement released after seems to suggest they're looking for greater investment rather than an outright sale? Although sell enough and it'll be a defacto sale. Hard to get excited about any potential sale, as being honest the list of people who'd be able to afford even stakes in the club at the asking price will all be horrible. FSG are what they are but better the devil you know and all that.
Liverpool's owners haven't put much of their own money in if we are talking about transfer spend. If any, actually. They've always viewed the club has having to be self sustaining. I do think the club could remain successful (relatively) without needing some sugar daddy owner to funnel money into the club.
Yeah, at first I thought they said the club was up for sale, but it seems like they are wanting others to become shareholders and invest in the club.
If you start from an already high base level, you can generate a lot of revenue from existing players and sponsorship etc. But eventually you will need a refresh with net spend, especially to hold a candle to Man City and Newcastle in future years.
You do realise that "Yanks out Arabs in" banner in the picture your buddy always posts were not for the current owners right? That was for Hicks and Gillett who I'd have taken absolutely anyone to get rid of those pair of ****s. No thanks, we've already had "mini Glazers" Yeah, for all their negatives, on a whole they've been good owners, saved us from the cancer twins, got the club running nice and smoothly from the chaotic mess we were, finally got ground extensions done and they've never been interfering owners, they've also actually listened to the fans and fans groups and reversed some naive decisions in the past. Would like a bit more investment into buying players though.
I would like to retract any oil money related posts I have made on this forum over the years. This should take away 70% of my posts. Ty x
lol as if one less American owner is a bad thing. You’re not going to get some local billionaire to buy a club of that size so be careful what you wish for. FSG have been tremendous owners, all things considered.
They’ll be a hell of a lot of interested buyers that’s for sure. I just hope it’s not people like those that own City or Newcastle. Surely the PL cannot let any more of that type in.
I know you joke, but there will be a mad scramble of people trying to justify it if a sale to some state sponsored group goes through.
I read it as wanting investment, not selling the club. And if we end up as the next image laundering, rancid entity like City or Newcastle, I'm done with this club.
