The Doomsday Clock has had its second hand moved to 90 seconds to midnight. This is the closest it has ever been to midnight in its 76 year history. In 76 years the hand on the clock has been moved either forwards or backwards just 25 times. Best stock up on tins.
Huge changes to the world are going to occur in the coming years. More and more people are waking up to this reality now. As difficult as it will be to go through, the impending collapse of our civilisation is necessary for the long-term future of our species and of the planet.
It'll be a little more difficult to wake up in the first few days but I'm sure we'll get used to it eventually.
David 'out of touch' Lammy advises plumbers, painters and window cleaners to 'use public transport' if they can't afford to work if the ULEZ is expanded as is being proposed.
Poor argument from Lammy as he's undermined the entire initiative. Tradesmen must have seen this on the horizon for years. They've had plenty of time to realise they're going to have to get energy efficient vehicles to enter big cities. Are we just supposed to put up with the damaging pollution forever?
Apparently ULEZ compliant vans are like rocking horse shit at the moment. I've never lived in London but I'm not sure Khan's plans to expand his ULEZ to cover the whole city were public knowledge 'for years'? As for the 'damaging pollution' today's engines are obviously extremely clean, and the move to battery technology within 15-20 years will cure 80% of the problems. I'm reminded that Andy Burnham's plan to apply a similar scheme across all 10 boroughs of Gtr Manchester has been shelved because the pollution levels it was based on simply don't exist.
I'm alright with Sunak not wearing a seat belt ,as long as his chauffeur promises to always drive really really fast and to slam on at the first sign of imminent danger.
We all know clean areas are coming for cities. My dad and uncle gave up their diesel cars 10 years ago anticipating it. Sorry, but not to know is a lack of preparation. Of course, I feel sorry for the ones that will struggle, but capitalism is always about the survival of the fittest. Burnham and Leeds' plans worked ahead of time, with most businesses complying to anticipate the change. That in itself brought pollution levels down. And plenty if schools are still located in dangerously high polluted areas.
New vehicles that comply must have been registered after 2016, and as I said vans aren't available even if a tradesman can afford one. It's very nice that your relatives were able to change their vehicles, but we're talking about people who use a van as a tool and finding minimum £20,000+vat for a new vehicle isn't to be sniffed at.
It's Australia Day today. A day of celebration that has become contentious over the years because it marks the anniversary of the first landing of ships that were to be the first penal settlement in Sydney Cove, which in turn marks the day when the British arrived and slaughtered the locals. First Nation peoples call it Invasion Day and there are numerous businesses across the land that have decided to let their workers choose whether to celebrate the day or work (as a kind of protest I suppose).
That fearless free speech warrior Elon Musk has had his platform comply with draconian censorship when they're asked to by the far right Indian PM...
Those that choose to work don't want to be associated with what the day really signifies. I notice in Perth they've decided to do low key stuff instead of the usual carnivals and firework displays. I think we're a decade or so away from it being scrapped altogether.. Personally, I would have worked but the construction site I'm working at the the minute is closed. Oh, that and it's 22 degrees and there's beer in the fridge..
**** going into work if there's a free holiday to be had! You don't have to celebrate what the day is about, just enjoy the day off doing your own thing. I'm no royalist but I'll happily enjoy the extra bank holiday for the coronation I won't watch or celebrate in anyway. Instead I'll fix myself to the sofa in my dirtiest pants watching box sets all day
