Imagine offering £40 million though with the current rate of inflation for players. Embarrassing. Arsenal sinking further into mediocrity unless they get their finger out.

I've never understood this nonsense about first bids, second bids and all of that. I'm sure there's some kind of logic or reasoning behind it but I don't see why you don't just negotiate with the selling club and try and come to terms privately.

It's PR I guess but what public pressure would Brighton be under to accept £40m?

That was the smokescreen long-game, creating a diversion before our proper target is even playing regular football.

There’s been talk of his flexibility lately (from myself too, admittedly) but I’m really not sure he’s good enough in central midfield or as a wing back/full back to start there even semi-regularly for a club with European ambitions.

I’m really not used to our players getting this kind of attention, but the fact it’s now focused on White makes it even stranger for me. He’s currently a decent PL player with a very high ceiling. However as I’ve said I’m not sure he even starts for us with a fully fit squad:

    Sanchez
    Lamptey -Veltman-Dunk-Webster-March
    Bissouma-Gross/Lallana

If Arsenal (or whoever else) signs him for £50m+ then I’m not sure what his future holds. If you’re spending that kind of money then you won’t want him as a utility option on the bench, but at a club like Arsenal I think he only holds down a starting spot if you go 3 ATB, or if Arteta is brave enough to go White - Saliba next season.

All I know is if I had to list the young players id most like to keep hold of then Bissouma, Sanchez & Lamptey are miles clear of White.

Alghough saying all of that, only Chelsea conceded less than us over their last 20 league games so maybe I’m doing him a disservice

FWIW, the main reason I've read for us moving for him is his ability on the ball. (David Luiz is leaving and White is seen as the ball player to replace him,)

    -----------------------------------------------------------------------

Albert Sambi Lokonga is apparently on the verge of signing for us.

Edit: And Lazio are interested in Lucas Torreira.

Seems we have made a 75 mil (including add ons) offer for Sancho. Still short of Dortmunds stated price which usually means a near guaranteed rejection.

    This ones going to drag.
