Guedes scores on his debut. He'll do well at Benfica, hopefully we'll enough to convince them to buy him in the summer. Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using Tapatalk
Porto win the Taça da Liga final 2-0. Lucky in the first half but played much better as the game went on. Sent from my Pixel 4a (5G) using Tapatalk
What a strange season we’re having. Randomly lose games but then go and smash in form Braga 5-0 Think everyone wanted young Chermiti to take the penalty rather than Pote though!
Been a while since anyone posted in here (knew those Sporting fans were gloryhunters ). Porto with a surprising defeat at home to Gil Vicente yesterday puts Benfica 8 points clear at the top? Title race over? Braga can overtake Porto tonight if they win in Guimaraes. Sporting are in a league of their own miles behind the top 3 but far above the rest of the pack.
Title race was over before Porto lost tbh. Fran Navarro who scored for Gil is having a great season, think he's moving to Porto in the summer he'll be a good replacement for any of their current striker if they get sold. Sent from my moto e30 using Tapatalk
Unfortunately the writing for the whole league was on the wall very early on this year so it’s made for a bit of a boring season. Been Benfica’s to lose since day one and it’s very much been a transitional year for us after losing Palhinha, Nunes and now Porro
Braga to slip up would be lovely.. starting to claw the gap back to them. We’ve put an unusual amount of eggs in one basket with the purchase of Diomande and I’ve liked what I’ve seen so far. With Coates, St Juste, Diomande, Inacio and Reis I’d like to think we can get our defensive stability back
Chermiti looks a talent up front as well, got to be looking at starting him more than Paulinho as the season goes on. Sent from my moto e30 using Tapatalk
Yeah he’s been a nice surprise as he’s not particularly been one of the highly touted younger players. Done a solid job since coming in though
Tiago Gouveia another huge talent on loan at Estoril from Benfica. Just watched the game vs Porto and thought he was electric. Sent from my moto e30 using Tapatalk
We’re looking much better recently. Diomande has been a really good signing so far Look at this beauty from Nuno Santos
Went to see a Portuguese 2nd division game last season. Took the Mrs up to see CD Nacional vs. Rio Ave while we were in Madeira, which was my first experience of a match abroad. There were only 800 people in attendance with probably about 60 from Rio Ave, but Nacional won 2-0. It was a decent game but lacked atmosphere I’d love to see one of the bigger sides in the top division play. Nacional’s stadium seemed a bit ramshackle in parts but the main stand we sat in was decent.
Yes attendances in the lower divisions are quite poor in Portugal. I used to go to Esperanca De Lagos games to take in some lower league football and the attendances were very very low. I would definitely recommend trying to get over and take in one of the big 3
I think our Championship is quite rare/unique for a second tier league getting such big crowds on average. Along with the Germans. Mind you a lot of non league teams get more than 800. Just hows strong the English league structure can be and how popular football is.
Yeah, I loved our time over there for the week and would really like to experience main land Portugal too. Even one of Braga or Vitoria Guimaraes who get 10,000+ every week tbh, doesn’t have to be one of the big 3.
I think you’ll have a great time, so many different places to explore in mainland Portugal. Lisbon and Porto are both fantastic cities in particular
Apart from the 3 Big teams Braga, Vitória SC, Boavista, Académica Coimbra, Beira-Mar, Vizela, Famalicão, Belenenses, Vitória FC, Marítimo, Leixões etc These clubs have a decent fan attendance i would say. Vitória SC is probably the only club who managed to get the locals to be fully supporters of the team. Normaly anywhere people support the locals but at the same time they are either Benfica, Porto or Sporting fans but not in Guimarães. If you support Vitória SC you dont support others, period. Boavista is also like this. Braga has a lot of multi colored fans
It's on my list! Closing in on 200 grounds this summer and never been to a game in Portugal. Plus a friend of mine lives in Lisbon!
