Another cyclist winning - they all seem to do quite well apart from Chris Froome who is the most successful British (maybe the people who vote don't see him as that) rider of them all. Hamilton 2nd (he can win next year after another title) and Kane 3rd (suspect they didn't want to see a footballer win anyway - never seem to do that well) Netball got more awards than the England football team which some might find strange but it was all a public vote.
Absolute joke of an awards ceremony. It should've been Hamilton or Fury. Hamilton has just broken so many records and again smashed the Formula 1 championships becoming the first ever driver to score over 400 points in a season and Fury has come through a world of shit and inspired millions of people suffering in silent, yet a guy who barely anyone has heard of who won a cycling race get's the nod. Don't get me wrong, the Tour De France is one of the hardest things to do in sport but if he wins SPOTY, then how the hell has froome never won it? Anyway, it's a joke. The women's netball team winning greatest sporting achievement backs that up.
Should have been Hamilton, as for the netball ladies getting the greatest sporting moment and team of the year . . .
Because don't think he is British? Hardly stepped foot in the country until joining Team Sky and hasn't lived here. Agreed though - does seem strange. Too late for Fury to be nominated I guess? They probably decided the shortlist weeks ago... Must have been a lot of Netball fans voting on the BBC site for the best moment - of the options I would have gone for Alistair Cook's last match century.
Tyson Fury should’ve won it by a long margin. His type get a lot of stick but he’s one of the sports “stars” who is the exact same as us. He donated to our local food bank rovers fans run and has inspired the “gypo’s” to all do the same. Getting back up like he did V Wilder was symptomatic of someone’s every day struggle and I guarantee it’s inspired at least 1 person to get out of the hole they’re currently in. Taking nothing away from Geraint Thomas who is clearly a big advocate for healthy living, and a healthy body plays a big part in having an healthy mind. I just think the BBC missed a massive opportunity to showcase mental health and the support out there and that’s a shame.
its funny as I expected Geraint to win it. Froome is twice the rider that him and Wiggins are. I think some people will never really consider him British, just like Lennox Lewis when he fought under the British flag as a pro Fury beat nobody over the course of the year (even though he was robbed). If he becomes undisputed in 2019 he definately deserves it
Can't really say footballers never do well when Ryan Giggs won it....fine footballer but what had he done that year?...I have no problems with Thomas winning it...he wasn't supposed to win the tour de France, Hamilton if not him...don't understand why Fury deserves it...he was the architect of his own downfall...nobody made him take steroids...get banned and then get coked up.
Absolutely mate. I personally thought he deserved it when he beat wlad but he just wasn’t popular. What he has done is completely change peoples perception of him. Fair fckin play
Ben Stokes for me since he became England captain he's turned our fortunes around breaking many records after we were shit with Root as captain.
I’d personally vote for Jessica gadirova. Picked up medals at commonwealth, European and world leve. first Brit to ever win an all round medal at the worlds, and she’s the world floor champion
