I wanted Fonseca to succeed at Roma, and there were always signs of something good, but ultimately his side seemed woefully unprepared for big games, often gutless in truth. I think he could be very good at the right club, but he's coming off a very worrying season. They picked up their first and only win over a top-eight side right at the end of the season. Don't think they were much better against the top teams in 19/20. Frequently shambolic defensively as well, though not helped by Roma's annual injury crisis.

It really wasn't all negative though, and I'm not a believer in writing managers off after they've had a bad spell somewhere. Wasn't long ago that people on here treated Moyes as if he was a bad joke, when anyone with a balanced view could see that he had managerial ability, albeit wasn't suited to some of his former clubs.

Right now going back for Poch would seem a great option, the appointment of Fonesca would condemn them to mid-table mediocrity for the foreseeable imo.

Fonseca definitely didn't impress at Roma but Roma was an absolute mess, even if you compare it to Tottenham so I don't think he could have done much better with that team, owners and injuries he had.
Probably in the same category for me as Potter and Ten Hag. Everyone seems convinced Ten Hag would be an amazing appointment but people also thought Frank De Boer would be amazing after winning 4 consecutive titles with Ajax.

I know nothing about him to be fair. Not sure why Levy has an obsession with a director of football though, he's tried it a few times and it has never really paid off for us.

Not particularly fussed about the manager at this stage either. Just wish we'd get on with it so we can start preparing for the season. We're blatantly going to leave everything down to the last minute as we always do so a slow start is inevitable and we'll be playing catch up as usual.

Reckon Spurs are going to really struggle next season. Can easily see them finishing as low as 8th.

Would this make him the first manager born in Africa to take charge of a Prem club?

Levy can't really win can he? For several seasons the majority of our fans have been saying Levy shouldn't be in charge of transfers and the football side of things and then he hires a director of football for exactly that and it's still not seen as a good thing?

Each to their own, I'm sure some will see it as a positive thing.

Personally I've never seen it work for us and our best managers under ENIC have been those that haven't had a director of football.

You're right in that Levy probably can't win but at the same time I have little sympathy for him. Like any chairman, manager, player or whoever in football - you're judged on your results. Ultimately a number of decisions have led to the point where he has no goodwill with the fans to be exempt from that criticism.

I think the customer / support relationship seems to bend dependent on which way the club want it to. Levy can't win but I don't think he can complain about not having 'supporters' behind him when 95% of the time he sees them as little more than customers. If you want the loyalty it goes both ways.

Gattuso left the Fiorentina job today after just 22 days in charge due to a lack of agreement over transfer funding.
