I meant more that there were Sporting fans wandering around on the pitch with not a single steward in sight attempting to get them back in the stand.
Absolutely brilliant!! Adan who’s not been his usual reliable self recently with two big saves and then the penalty save Most actually won’t be aware, but that result could turn out to be massive for Portugal’s European coefficient. Someone will end up paying a decent wedge for Ousmane Diomande. Only signed him in January, 19 years old and becoming an absolute rock at the back. Esgaio with another great game too after receiving so much criticism in the last year. Been exceptional the last few games What a win! That really does feel special, I shall be opening another super bock to celebrate
If you could design a worse night in the grand scheme of things, I’m all ears! Awful awful night for Arsenal. Palace at the weekend is going to be ****ing massive now. I shall speak more on the game tomorrow but Sporting were excellent tonight
Congrats, Donny. Well done, Sporting. Only 1 of the 3 Bundesliga clubs made it into the next round, Bayer Leverkusen. Union Berlin lost 0-3 in Belgium against the other Union and is deservedly out of the competition. And Freiburg lost 0-2 at home against Juve. So it's only Bayern and Bayer without n for the Bundesliga still in Europe this year. Meagre
You were correct On a serious note, those 2 teams are admirable. 1 has Tony Bloom and almost won the Belgian League on their first season up while 1 has a set of fans who donated their blood and took the money from the blood donations to donate to the club and did the manual labour to renovate a stadium which hadn't been renovated for 50 years free of charge
Think Mourinho will be quite happy to be on that half of the draw. Good chance they reach another European final.
Man U vs Sevilla Juventus vs Sporting Leverkusen vs Union Feyenoord vs Roma Man Utd vs Roma, Juventus and Leverkusen semis?
kicker.de writes "Losglück (luck of the draw)" for Bayer Leverkusen. I'm not so sure about it, though, after seeing what the Belgians did to Union Berlin, scoring 3 goals in each leg. EL-Viertelfinale: Losglück für Leverkusen - Sevilla fordert ManUnited
I mean there aren't any easier opponents (maybe Sevilla?) than Union SG so its the worst of a good bunch Now that I say this Union SG will make it to the final and thrash Man U 6-0
Sporting were so well set up last night. It was in such a way to exploit the lack of running power in Jorginho and Zinchenko. Edwards regularly had a go at Zinchenko and their wing-backs (and St Juste at one point) were able to drive up through the centre of the pitch. This meant a lot of hard running at a time in the season where you don't want to be dealing with a lot of hard running. That said, I still thought we had the better chances throughout the match (outside of that one for Sporting late on which hit Ramsdale in the face). Speaking of Ramsdale, we have to make sure we never go to a penalty shootout again. He isn't very good at saving them In fact I don't think he has saved one since joining the club. I'm annoyed we're out, I've made it clear for a while now that I'd love to win this competition but truth be told, I think it's too bloody difficult to juggle this cup and a league title push. The permanent Thursday/Sunday schedule really does kill you. I would never be that guy that deliberately wants us to lose but I am that guy that can very quickly see the benefits of being out now. The main one being around our game with City in April. If we went through last night, our match with Southampton would have been moved from the Friday to the Sunday. Because we're out, that stays where it is and we get an extra two days before the big match with Man City on the 26th April. Who will be coming off the back of away trips to Brighton (or an FA Cup semi) and Bayern in the previous week. And you look at the potential draw we would have had. Juventus then United. No thank you Anyway, that's hopefully the end of our Europa adventures for at least half a decade. It's been a wild ride without a happy ending, lots of moments: - Cordoba's goal from range in our very first match - Losing at home to Ostersunds - Ramsey's lob against Spartak - the mega heartbreak against Atletico in Wenger's last ever European tie - the Emery run which included overturning a 3-1 deficit against Rennes and away wins at Napoli and Valencia - Baku. I don't need to say anymore than that. - Losing at home to Eintracht Frankfurt which was the final nail in the coffin of Unai Emery - Bukayo Saka's emergence - Aubameyang's overhead volley against Olympiakos - Aubameyang's catastrophic miss in the last minute against Olympiakos - the emergence of Willock, Smith-Rowe and Nketiah while Saka grew - that absolute ding dong with Benfica in 20/21 - Lacazette's moment of defiance against Slavia Prague - going out to Unai Emery's Villarreal in the semi finals in 20/21 - Marquinhos' debut goal against FC Zurich - Goncalves' long range stunner - a penalty shootout defeat
In Rotterdam and just realised Feyenoord play Roma tonight! Quite excited, won't be able to contemplate going to the game but be good to find a bar to watch it in since it's an early kick off.
