Ellen White has retired from the game.

Great way to bow out !

I wonder how much the Euros had an impact on that decision. She retires on 52 international goals, one short of Rooney's 53. I'm sure many expected her to surpass that this summer.

She only scored in one of England's six games at the Euros this summer. Great way to bow out of your career but as an individual her tournament was a little underwhelming. Perhaps accepted that she's on the decline and now's the time to go after that Euros.

It does make me laugh the fuss the media made about her overtaking Rooney as England's all time scorer.
Then it didn't happen, she's retired and they've switched back to calling her England women's all time scorer.

Ellen White is too good to retire IMO. Even if she only scored once these Euros, she still played quite well and looked capable of scoring. She could still be a top scorer at the next World Cup, if she reverses her decision.

Chances are she wants to spend more time with her husband and kids. Women generally end up prioritising family life over their career, it's a major reason why the wage gap exists.

No World Cup for Scotland or Wales - heartbreak for both but the Republic are through.

Unfortunate choice of celebration chant in the dressing room for the Irish, probably spoiled their memory of the occasion given the backlash.

Much ado about nothing. Nobody here who actually sings that song supports the PIRA. You’ll hear it in any pub or at any piss up here.

I really don't think they'll care less about some media coverage from a different country about nothing.

Well they have and they do, the lass who recorded the video was in tears about it. Women aren't used to that kind of intense public backlash en masse.

Ui, that's bad :eeek I hope she's recovering fast enough that she can gain fitness for the World Cup. I really liked her at the Women's Euro. Get well soon, Beth Mead

(btw: Germany international Florian Wirtz got a similar hefty injury in March. Although he is actually being back in training it wasn't enough time for him to be considered for the 26 men Germany squad for the actual World Cup, which is a big loss for us, too.)
Being back in 8 months (for her to the next World Cup) are doable but not guaranteed. I hope she makes it
