The average life span of a manager is pretty short. I’d wager the Liverpool job would come up again at a time where he would be free to take it. Could understand some frustration in the event he didn’t take over but not worth getting worked up about it now.
I’ll try and keep it short! He’s a fantastic motivator and has made use of our youth setup unlike the previous few coaches before him. He’s changed it up during his time with us, first couple of seasons we were excellent defensively, last year was a bit of a transition as we lost a few key players without replacing them properly but this season he’s got everyone right back at it and has us playing much more attacking football with the addition of Gyokeres. I definitely would have questions about him taking such a big job when he’s only 39, his tactics can sometimes be questioned. This isn’t me saying Klopp isn’t a fantastic, elite manager.. but I see Klopp’s main qualities being that he can really build a squad that believes in him, plays for the badge/ the fans and creates an environment where a smaller squad of players really thrive. On the other hand you have Pep who seems more of a more creative thinker and perfectionist. I bring this up because I think Amorim’s qualities are more akin to someone like Klopp (obviously nowhere near the same level) I’m very undecided on how he’d do and I’d hate to lose him but it seems inevitable that he’ll be moving on soon, especially if we win the league title again this year. If he does achieve that though it says a lot about him that he’ll have taken a team that hadn’t won a league title in 19 years to two titles and a second place in 4 full seasons Sorry it wasn’t short after all
I was very impressed with Amorim when Spurs played them, I'd have had him at Spurs in a heartbeat back then. Obviously there are risks involved if Liverpool do hire him, there are risks with literally any manager. Honestly given the choice between Alonso and Amorim I'd be choosing the later right now. Alonso is having a phenomenal season but it still is his first year in the job. It just feels way way way too soon for him to jump up to a Liverpool/Munich/Madrid level job. Amorim has been impressing at Sporting for a few years both domestically and in Europe, it feels less like a flash in the pan and more exciting up and coming manager who has hit his ceiling in his current position.
Seems like he'd be a good fit with all our young lads coming through he was my 2nd choice after Xabi so hope we can get him. Heard he has a big release clause though which we will no doubt try and try and get down.
I wonder if Alonso wants to wait for Madrid. Frankly it doesn't make sense to pass on a job, which is high profile, your past club & where you will be given time - the last of which he won't get at either Munich or Madrid. Also the expectations in the beginning will be relatively lower at LFC than Munich & Madrid. I know nothing about Amorim. Thanks to @Donnyrovers90 for that write up. Apparently, him & DeZerbi are the favourites now.
Well when we poached him from Braga, he became the third most expensive manager of all the time. It was a big big call from our club president and it certainly raised a few eyebrows spending 10 million euros on a 34 year old with 3 months experience! So he will cost a decent amount
In the end the level of speculation around alonso is wild. a lot of bad actors are at play and vested interests. All we know right now is the snrior executives are in place to line up whoever it will be. Looking at a squad level review what we've managed this season has set up a little breathing room for this team to buy carefully. I am assuming massive salah rumours are going to start up soon. I think one forward is a must but after that its down to who goes. GK is sorted one way or another even if kelleher goes RB is sorted LB is ok CB needs future proofing but there are 4 there even when matip goes No 6 again needs looking at but morton is available. Midfield has lots of bodies even when thiago goes The 5 forwards are ok plus some kids are coming up. We can actually lose a couple and be ok if we just focus on a bit more pace to replace salah eventually.
Pretty sure Paul Joyce quoted a £17m release clause. Didn't even know managers were getting release clauses these days
Yeah he had it in his contract that we signed him on. It’s turned out looking like a great bit of business all round but it would’ve been an absolute disaster if he’d have failed
Pretty certain I read the kid's interview where he said Klopp asked him & his loan club to use him as an eight. Bajcetic was supposed to be the next number 6. But his injury 'Growing Pains' is the most unique one I have come across.
morton has not played 8 at anytime for Hull. he's played very well though. the growing pains stuff is not thst unusual. be it shin splints or whatever. Gerrard was constantly injured as a young player as he grew quite a lot from 16 to 18 and honestly he would be injured by sitting on the airplane on European games. bajcetic is being managed carefully.
