I think it's clear that, no matter what happens following Klopp's departure, we're going to go backwards for a couple of years at least. Even Alonso is a downgrade, the other options more so. No disrespect, but De Zerbi shouldn't even be in the running as far as I'm concerned, and I'm getting no good vibes from the other options. Bar Alonso, there is just no one out there right now that would have me excited about next season. So if he's staying at Leverkusen, it's a serious pisser.
I had no mixed feelings that whoever takes over we will see a drop off. It is just important the drop off doesn't see them fall out the Champions League spots. It's only natural. We all know Klopp has at times overachieved because he is that brilliant. Nobody had Liverpool down for anything but a transition season this campaign but they've got a trophy and have made it to April still in the title conversation. I just want a manager who carries on with pushing the team to go above and beyond, and keep that sense of optimism about the place. To do that you have not be overawed by the pressure of the job, or who who are following. My preference list: Amorim (has a good amount of experience for his age and seems to overachieve with what he has - Sporting have made some big profit sales under him) Nagelsmann (same as above re age/experience, Bayern is a mark against but they're also a shitshow rn - a decent Euros would help repair that) Lijnders (continuity Klopp, might be a risk with lack of top job experience but could also help to steady the ship and keep current players comfortable) Frank (I just quite like what he's done with Brentford and feels like it wouldn't be a huge shift tactically, this season aside he's been impressive - could be overawed though) De Zerbi (I just cannot get on the De Zerbi train, even though so much about him kinda makes sense, but his haircut is just so wank - he might be too insane) But in the end I trust the club on this one. They've managed to pull off the right decision getting Edwards back and wrapping up the sporting director role quickly.
Alonso has confirmed he's staying at Leverkusen. Xabi Alonso snubs Liverpool & Bayern Munich to commit to Bayer Leverkusen Gutted, but fair play to him. Clearly believes he can get them playing even better than they are right now, and at least he hasn't taken the easy option and gone to Bayern. Wonder now if Bayern will change their mind and try to get Tuchel to stay. Reckon they only wanted him gone to try and get Alonso to join them instead of us had he decided to move on.
Well we will see what he can do when half his team are snatched out from under his nose. I've no issue with a guy being loyal to a club thats given him a shot but he will end up looking round for these opportunities in future and they don't come along too often. We won't be appointing a manager for 1 year.
No chance. Like I said yesterday, he knew Klopp was definitely leaving and we need someone in this summer, so this is him deciding he didn't want to be Liverpool manager either now or likely in the future pretty much. And there is nothing wrong with that, we weren't necessarily the best option for him.
Shite news about Alonso. He really was the only exciting name. I'd gamble on someone like Thomas Frank now.
As an opposition fan I'd probably want him becoming our manager too. No thanks. Got Potter to Chelsea all over it, would be too big for him.
It would either go really well, or a total trainwreck. I would suspect more likely the latter tbh. I don't think he'd handle the pressure too well.
Amorim for me now seems the best out of a less than ideal bunch. Which isn't great but it's where we're at. Maybe Klopp will now do an early 2000s Fergie and decide to stay after this news and seeing no one else appears to be the right fit. Wishful thinking, I know.
I really can't see him going there. It would be easy money, and despite what Alonso has done this season, his only challenge would be the CL pretty much. But bar them being the biggest team in his home country, they're just not the type of "project" I think would interest him. For the same reason I don't think we will ever see him managing Real or Barca.
no. Klopp won't take that gig he has said as much several times. he is not leaving LFC and building a mansion in mallorca and frankfurt to then move to munich and take on all the stress without even a rest. thats my opinion anyway. he is a very straight forward man and wants his rest.
I don't think he takes it (yet anyway) but I don't think that'll stop them trying unless an obvious candidate pops up. De Zerbi is now betting favourite for that job. Nagelsmann and Flick in top 5 - which shows how slim the options are given they both left not long ago. Flick makes the most sense I guess.
