That was a cracking comeback and win at the end from Higgins. I don't think he'll win it as he's past his best imo but he played really well to pull that back.
I don't watch snooker but I seen a viral post on socials with a bloke licking a young boys face in the audience. Anyone see it? It was honestly freaky. Knocked me sick needs looking into it really does.
I like Trump but hoping he doesn’t make the final. Biggest threat to Ronnie imo. Other than himself of course
Not sure how it came across on television but, from the other side of the theatre, it was an amazing roar when the last black went down. Two fabulous contests last night and well worth only getting about four hours' kip before going to work this morning.
Would be nice to see Wilson beat Higgins. Decent player. The Ronnie and Bingham match was littered with mistakes. Neither wanted the last frame. I do feel though that Bingham has always had that error in him in big matches. Missed some easy reds really. Ronnie definitely has another gear or two if needed.
I think it has to be. Wilson will probably start the semi-finals as favourite to win the title, being both the highest ranked player of the four and the one who has looked consistently the strongest so far. Even though he had a slight wobble to be pegged back from 9-4 this morning, he took care of his business comfortably enough tonight. But, even though the single table set-up won't be new to him, the pressure of expectation that is likely to come on him now will be and it remains to be seen how he responds to that. If I were to predict the finalists now, I'd probably be boring and go for Wilson and Bingham as the two men who have been the distance but you really can't call it given how many upsets there have been in this championship. Pretty sure there's been years when two qualifiers have made it to the one table set-up, but I can't remember one with three.
I believe they have tightened the pockets this year, hence a lot less centuries. Well onto last night, Trump and O'Sullivan have not covered themselves in glory, with post match comments have they? O'Sullivan first. Now I am not suggesting Ronnie has played well and lost. Because of his flow and general style of play, he can often look like he is playing better than he actually is. I did think earlier in the match he had done a remarkable act of sportsmanship in refusing to go for a red, But on reflection it looks like a points scoring exercise more than anything, in his one way spat with the female referee, which continued. Then after losing the match to Stuart Bingham, an ex world champion, and a very underrated player by some, he comes out with the Quip "well I didn't want to play in the world championship anyway" then went on to speak about his commitments in Saudi and China. It's a huge shame to me that probably the most naturally gifted player in snooker history, has this other talent for turning into a petulant awkward child on a regular basis. I always fancied that Bingham could spring a surprize, I just wish I'd listened to my gut an slung a bit of money on him. Now Trump, frankly he has played shite, no real idea why. After the match he is all about Rhythm and Jak Jones sticking to his "game plan". Really hinting that Jones was playing slow, to break up his flow. Absolute bollocks IMO and I didn't see Jones playing slower than anybody else. Jak Jones played pretty well, maybe that was the reason Trump's game collapsed? Imagine Trump playing in the era of Cliff Thorburn and Terry Griffiths? He would quit.
Ronnie in one of his funny woe me I won't play moods? World Championship: Ronnie O''Sullivan casts doubt on UK appearances next season
I didn't see the incident with the re-spotting of the black but, as far as "Doorgate" was concerned, I felt O'Sullivan was within his rights to wait until people had stopped coming in because of the nature of the shot he was playing at the time. Where he overstepped the mark for me was in his behaviour towards Desislava Bozhilova. I don't think it's a question of referees having it in for O'Sullivan as he suggested but more a case of him pushing things more with some referees than with others, as he did with Olivier Marteel in the final two years ago. I very much doubt he would tell a Jan Verhaas or a Paul Collier to "chill" like that. As for his comments about potentially not playing many UK events next season, I'm really not sure how much we should read into them. It was only a few days ago that he was sounding more confident than he had done in a very long time about his prospects in the game for the foreseeable future. To go from that to threatening to pick and choose and sounding more like a businessman than a sportsman on the basis of, essentially, one bad session seems quite a leap, even for O'Sullivan. I could see him skipping the Home Nations tournaments, but I'd be surprised if he wasn't at the Triple Crown events in particular. The other question, given that he'll be down to four or five in the rankings after this championship, is how many events does he need to play in order to sustain his ranking to make sure he's at the Crucible next year (assuming he wants to be). Trump's comments seem to me to come more from a place of sheer dejection at losing than anything else. He may have won his first two matches comfortably but, like a lot of the other top players, he hasn't hit the heights he can reach and given that he was also quoted as saying he only has himself to blame for losing, I suspect he knows that better than most of us.
