We have 3 items individually insured on it too my Sons mountain bike and 2 of my Wife’s rings a diamond solitaire and a Le Vien ring that are insured for £3000 each so I guess that would put it up a bit, plus we live in the West Marsh area of Grimsby which is not exactly posh. Oh just remembered there is also a river about 30-40 metres from our house and even though it has never flooded in my lifetime you still have to declare it on the insurance.
Reminded by this thread I checked my renewal quotes today, and it seem I will be paying well over £150 this time, the robbing bastards.
Tipping in this country. Why oh why do some jobs expect us to leave a tip when basically that person is carrying out their role in that business to which they get paid. Plenty of other people are on minimum wage yet they don't get a tip off a customer to bump up their wages.
Someone in a restaurant gets paid to bring me my meal and then we are expected to pay him/ her extra for carrying the plates to the table. You are already getting f*cking paid.
Oh come on, they’re on minimum wage and have to spend all day bending the knee to tight-fisted miserable fookers.
I don't think tipping in the UK should be expected like it is in the US. With that being said, if I do get service with politeness and a smile then I'm more than happy to tip the waiter/waitress accordingly.
Exactly this, and if they don’t give good service then I just don’t tip them. Aye, it’s famously easy to get a job currently.
My work are desperate for staff right now. Large supermarket distribution centre just over 15 squid an hour for "unskilled" labour
Oh sorry I didn't realise it was my job to bump up their wages. Other jobs don't expect a tip so why does the service sector expect. Naff all to do with a superiority complex. Anyone who gets off their arse to earn money and not be a scrounger waiting for their dole money to land in their bank account as they dont want a job has my respect.
What annoys me about tipping is how some restaurants now add the tip on automatically, took my Missus to the Ivy in York last year and we were going to tip anyway as the food and service was fantastic but I think it’s cheeky as **** that they add it on themselves. There’s a Brazilian place in Hull called the Beleza we like going to as well and they do it too.
My favourite is when getting a drink at the bar and they swivel the card machine round and the first thing you see is “Would you like to add a gratuity?” What for? Sure, you’ve poured the pint but I’ve had to come to the bar to get it myself, it’s a joint effort.
I was recently out of work after redundancy, albeit only for a month or so. I started using it again as it really is a necessary evil if you're looking for work. But Christ on a bike, it's hard work. The most annoying thing for me are the wankers from LinkedIn themselves nagging you to sign up to premium. F**k off. I neither want it or need it. Then you get the self-centered narcissists who think everyone wants to know everything about their work life. Glad I was able to stop using it again.
The worst thing about recruiters are the ones who try and badger you into taking a role that you've already rejected. A few years ago I was unhappy in my role (well, the wage, but that's by the by) and out of the blue I'd received a message from a LinkedIn recruiter. I looked at the role and it seemed ok, the lowest part of the salary band was what I was already on, but the high end was much better. I'd been in Insurance for 15 years by this point, so thought with that sort of experience I could go towards the high end. I had three interviews and was offered the role. I had two demands, the first was a higher wage than I was on and the second was being given time to take my then 2 year old twins to nursery at 9:00 one day a week. They offered me less than I was on and flat out refused to give me the second request. As such, an easy no from my side. The recruiter was still contacting me about it nearly a month later. I went in to all kinds of detail explaining why it simply wasn't feasible and that if he had anything else in future I'd be amenable, but he kept coming back with the same role. In the end I had to block his number! Fortunately, 5 years later I'm still at the same place, received an official promotion at the end of April and have seen my wage increase by over 52% in the last two years.
