I find the Mowbray sacking quite bizarre. They were languishing in the depths of league 1 for years. He got them up and they were tipped to struggle. Instead he’s had them pushing up and playing some nice football as well. Even thumping us 5-0 in the process. Maybe he’s had a falling out as their recruitment hasn’t been great. Who knows but very surprised he’s gone.
Always be well remembered at ITFC as well, a cracking centre half and good guy. Looks a very harsh decision from the outside. So what next, European hipster coach in his 30s who nobody’s heard of?
Obviously I don't know the ins & outs but it seems a bit rash. Playoffs last season, currently sitting 9th, 3 points off the playoffs. Have Sunderland spent loads of money to have such high expectations? I would be incensed if we let Robins go & we're struggling more than you.
Yep, I wouldn’t really pay attention to the early bookies odds. I think we’ll go down the route of a foreign coach. Nope, we’ve not spent much in particular. Performances over the last few weeks have been difficult to watch and we’re struggling to break teams down now after our swashbuckling style at the start of the season. I think Mowbray was let down by the recruitment side really. As I’ve said, we haven’t got a striker who can stick the ball in the back of the net so are relying very heavily on the likes of Jack Clarke and Patrick Roberts to perform. Despite how gutted I am, I support the hierarchy to get this right. They’ve turned us around from a laughing stock in to a progressive club with our recent transfer business.
Mowbray is still loved here too and always will be, great manager and played great football. Trust Sunderland to get rid before we play them though ffs...
If we lose to Sheffield Wednesday I think he needs to go. The fans have already turned and I don't think he'd survive that. Or at least he shouldn't do.
To be fair, we aren't that hopeless anymore. But when you were 11v11 it was 1-1 Only capitulated when you went down to 10. Thought you played some decent stuff but we are hard to break down now as well. Bristil City didn't have a shot (even off target) in the first have vs us. Norwich didn't create much against us, and scored because of a mistake and Rotherham scored 1 goal, again a mistake and our new boss had only bene in the country 2 days.
Duff just wasn't the right fit for us, he didn't seem to get us at a club. He never moved to the city or even the country which was never going to go down well, I don't think that was necessarily the issue but it sums up him not really buying into us. His comments about the derby went down like a lead balloon, and definitely didn't help his case. Ultimately though his style of play just wasn't us, and it wasn't what the squad he inherited were suited to playing. I don't think expectations of results here are high, and if a manager had the same points as him but there was a belief he was building towards something then he'd be given time but that wasn't evident. Attendances recently have all been below the lowest than any game under Martin. I'd ideally want Luke Williams in from Notts County, not sure if we've got that pull though at the moment.
I'd put a stipulation in that he can't bring his defensive coach with him after that FA Cup match on Friday night
That West Brom squad that played against us in 2007/8 is probably one of the best I've ever seen. Played some beautiful football that season iirc.
I've heard that Steve Bruce is in the frame and would have no problem living in the city, he's just bought a new caravan.
Will Still being heavily linked today. Did you know that Reims pay a £22,000 fine each time Still manages because he doesn’t have his UEFA Pro License?
Went to uni with a couple of Swansea fans and still keep in touch with them and what you’ve said seems to be the common consensus. Not a bad bloke but seemed to be completely the wrong fit for the club both on and off the pitch
Yep same, but I very much doubt that. Although I think he’d be a good appointment I don’t think he’d fit the criteria of our ownership. They’re following the Brentford and Brighton method of relying heavily on statistics and look to prefer the foreign market than our domestic game. Unsure if there are any truth down your end about Schumacher? @Connor. @argyle-ive
Problem is we're letting other clubs sack their managers and pick up new managers from those available. When we eventually sack Neil, which seems inevitable now, the later we leave it the less choice we have. And no chance of a decent run at the January window.
