I do see the point though and have suggested the same in discussions I've had with other Liverpool fans. I would defiantly have signed him and although it's a good signing it won't change anything.
The press might be saying so, but will Hicks put his hand in his pocket, as I am sure even the usless Parry could of sorted the deal before the transfer dead line.
I like Mascherano. Maybe £17m is a bit steep but I remember he had Kaka in his pocket for most of last year's Champs League Final. It's all very well writing "one of Argentina's dullest midfielders" but jetting in an Aimar or Riquelme into Anfield won't win Liverpool the league either. Like one of Liverpool's former favourties Mark Lawrenson said, Liverpool are carrying too many average players. Signing Mascherano is clearly a good step to take to remedy that. All in all, turning his into a permanent signing is good work imo.
It'd cost us about £17m in wages and lack of transfer fee, to keep Sissoko and the Mascherano deal (for a player much better than Sissoko) includes wages. John Terry will earn more than £17m in wages alone, over the next 4 years. So for wages and a transfer fee over 4 years, i'd say that's good value for money, for a top player in his position, which Mascherano is. I guess that sort of transfer fee alone for Hargreaves and Carrick was good value for money though.
