hi im an irish student and im wonderin do the english go on j1 holidays? me and a group of lads are goin to chicago for a 3 month working holiday. really counting down the days, and tell me any been chicago before? any been on j1's before? and im a tad scared im not gonna get a job and have to come home early. also wondering are there any good watering wholes in chicago? cant wait!!!
Now that the grammar check is out of they way (let's hope no employer sees that or you'll never get a job), I'm gong to America on a J1 this summer to work at a summer camp in Michigan. Really looking forward to it! Never been to Chicago though, might go there after camp for a few days.
Wow got destroyed there, a J1 is called a student exchange I think. It must be a Irish thing. A student travels to America when there college year ends and gets a 3 month visa which allows them to work in the states. Its a huge experience and my older brother and sister have gone before to New York and really enjoyed themselves. It seems very tough to get accomodation before we go but if we cant get it before we leave we'll get a hostel for a few days while we search for a place to stay.
It's a visa distributed by the US government that allows for up to 3 months of work/education for a student in the US
Ignore the ****, obviously doesn't have any kind of life or hobby if he's annalysing people's punctuation and grammar on an internet forum.
In answer to your question, yes is the answer. I did 3 months on mine in Orlando, Florida just before my final year at uni. Best 3 months of my life, was amazing.
My son got a job in NY within days of getting there (he's a studying but wants some extra $s), working in a diner makes him about $65-100 per shift. Tipping is mandatory in the U.S. so if you get offered a job waiting on tables don't worry about the salary, the tips make it worthwhile. As a Mick in Chicago you shouldn't find it hard getting a job.
