They just dumped them in the ocean? That lighter pic is incredible though, the detail is great to look at.
I saw a documentary on those subway cars ages ago. They basically strip the cars of everything useful/harmful and drop the things into the ocean outside NY building up some sort of a wall from them. It somehow helps to protect from the waves a little bit and is also used as a scuba diving spot. This photo was taken by my wife of some lads fishing on the Amazon river at Sunset in a place called Santarem.
Dude, at one point up river - about 1,000km inland it's so wide you cannot see the other side. It's absolutely incredible, deep too - over 150m in places.

The Aurora looks spectacular no matter what, but that is still a truly stunning photograph. I'd love to go there and experience it for myself.
