I think Fergie coveted that fella ,I can honestly remember those transfer windows with the media linking his name with United. I used to think if United got him ,the rest of us can shut up shop. I think he would have been unbelievable under Ferguson ,but as you say too comfortable in his own surroundings. I think the closest he ever came to leaving 'in his own words' was when he was 21 and just won the PFA young player of the year award ,Spurs came in for him and they remain the only club he had talks with.
Le Tissier was a home boy, he played for Southampton because straight after a home game he could be home in Guernsey in under an hour. Not dissing Southampton here but he was such a waste of talent, could have lit up the biggest stage..
