NOTES (Please read this or you'll get upset):
The teams here are teams+managers+manager peak and based of peak not overall tenure
This list is not made by me, it is based on peak elo
This list will be more biased towards current sides because they play more matches=more chances to get elo
Lineups might not be that team's best lineups but I don't have enough time to care

So Hamburg's team of 1980 makes it into this list - but the Nottingham Forest team that defeated them in the final to make it back to back European Cups, doesn't?

    Pass.

    I like this topic!

Heres my opinion on something. 2011 Porto was a fantastic team, BUT, they could never be the best Porto team in history let alone in Portugal. I would say 2003-4 Porto always, they were special. In Portugal there are 3 truly iconic teams.

    2003-4 Porto, 1960's Benfica and 1950's Sporting (5 Violinos)

I still can't believe we lost this final. Beating Real Madrid 5-1 in the semi-finals in the Volkspark is still the best ever HSV match that I watched live. Both (Forest and HSV) had great teams in that era. (HSV was in all 3 European Competition finals from 1977-1983, won 2 still missed to win the "little" UEFA cup final, though.

Don't bring me down. Elo? Electric Light Orchestra?

What? You don't know Jeff Lynne and E.L.O ? Shows your youth ;)
He "peaked" in the 70s and early 80s and Don't bring me down was one of his chart hits.

Was my direct response to your "Here is Brian Clough's elo chart from 1975-1979".

what I was trying to say is, that I don't know about elo in terms of measuring a "best european football team of all time" and that I only know E.L.O (and a former german electronic magazine called ELO) ;)
