You didn’t need Van Basten, when you already have Roberto Baggio. I’d argue Platini/Gullit would have been better fit for your front 4 instead of Baggio/Van Basten too. I.E Platini-Messi-MvB-Ronaldo Solid back four.
Had the same wikipedia problem with Platini. I know he's rated on here but I'm not a fan of him anyway. Baggio is a proper icon though. In the 90s the only footy outside of England I watched was the world cup so that might have over-hyped my view of Baggio. Also, Baggio is not a #9 so wanted a striker ahead of him. I nearly went for Stam and Nesta with Bergomi at RB and Lewandowski up front at the last minute but had decided early on I wanted van Basten and guessed you'd go for Nesta so knew I could wait.
Think I’m free to pick my Chelsea player, Kante (best box to box tackling midfielder) and Juventus’ Buffon (best goalkeeper).
Beckenbauer’s prime was libero in back four… and Scirea/Beckenbauer would have wanted to do the same job (in same areas). Greatest libero + greatest goalkeeper + most complete centreback was a better mix. Plus Gerrard will excel more playing infront of an elite playmaking DM (Redondo) and box to box tackling CM (Kante).
