Nothing offical just yet but it does look like Diego is on his way. Suicide from Juventus' point of view unless a big signing will be replacing him. How Juve fans must wish Moggi and co still ran the club.

On another note, i'm no expert but i can't understand why Bayern haven't invested in a defender, i watched most of your CL games last season and Van Buyten and Demechlis were shaky to say the least. Surley now is the time to attract players after such a good season last year?

Yes, I woud agree with you that we could do with a Center Back. Zippy said it nicely a couple of weeks ago, that one or two good signings to strenghten our defence could make the difference between a very good and a great Bayern team.
However, Van Gaals policy seems to be to rather stick with what he's got.
It even looks like that Demichelis is on his way and still we are not going to sign anyone to replace him. Maybe (hopefully) thats just what they say to the press and in reality they are actually looking to sign someone, but somehow I doubt it. Our CB pair is going to be Van Buyten and Badstuber with Contento on the left and Lahm on the right which is different to last season, where Badstuber nearly always had to play LB which is out of position for him. Contento looks promising so far.
Also, I believe that our defensive problems last season resulted not only out of the fact, that some of our back four were lacking in ability, but also the very offensive minded style of play. Its good possible, that we could sign the best Defenders in the world and would still look shaky in the Back.

Yep. Seem pretty consistent with what we are being offered in Oz. Still think Bayern might easily account for Lautern. They had a good win first up, but this might be a step too much.

Although Zippy, you know more about this than me, my brief look at the history of games over the last 5 or 6 in the Bundesliga (not cup comp), and there have only been a handful of meetings, shows Bayern winning more often than not, however it has been tight on a couple of occassions. Lautern have won once over that period.

I just hope Bayern bring their A game. This game rounds out a pretty handy multiple for me atm.

If their is ever a place that I'd be worried were going to lose at, its Kaiserslautern.
Bayern at home is their match of the year and they will give it their all.
They look in good shape too and will fancy their chances against us that early in the season, when half the Bayern team is not really matchfit yet.
This game is not the sure bet that statistics make it look like.
I'd rather play Bremen or Schalke at the moment.

    Vroooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooom.

There goes my confidence roaring on by.

I now think my bet is very precariously placed.

Is there some sort of major rivalry between these two clubs?

I think there used to exist a mini rivalry between the 2 clubs in the late 90's when Kaiserslautern won the 1998 Bundesliga a year after they got promoted back to the top flight. It was a close fight for the title that year apparently and because the manager of Kaiserslautern was Otto Rehagel who had coached Bayern in the past.

    Sorry mate

A Bayern win is still the saver bet, then the other way around.

Its just that Kaiserslautern has always been a place where we had difficulties in the past and I dont like it, that we have our first away game there, when our team is not at 100%. The crowd will be hostile, they absolutely hate us. Its not so much a special rivalry between the two clubs, its more a fan thing. Bayern are simply just one of the most hated clubs by nearly all fans of other clubs in the league and Kaiserslautern is known for a "good" atmosphere, but very hostile towards the opposition. There is also a "friendship" between Kaiserslautern Fans and the supporters of Bayerns city rival 1860 Munich.
For "smaller" clubs that just got promoted, the home game against Bayern is always their highlight of the season and they will be on fire.
Just thought I let you know about it, so that your not to shocked, should Bayern fail to win there.
    Good Luck anyway!!

Although we all think very highly of van Gaal most Bayern fans would agree with you, I can't understand why we haven't bought somebody, we certainly have the money.

The first game that season was Bayern v Lautern and they won 1-0 in Munich.

Diego has gone then. Gigantic error on the part of Juve if you ask me, they had better hope they don't draw Wolfsburg in Europe any time soon.

Yes as Poacher pointed out above Diego has now signed for Wolfsburg.

Ivica Olic returns to the Bayern attack tonight, replacing Toni Kroos and playing just behind Klose. Otherwise Bayern start with the same side as against Wolfsburg last week.

Brilliant signing for Wolfsburg, with a playmaker like that behind him; I know who I'm backing for the golden boot :whistle

Well we somehow managed to throw that one away :rolleyes we had 72% possession in the first half, they had 2 attacks and we handed them 2 goals in 66 seconds.
Tbh with all the Germany and Holland players coming very late into training I expected that it would take us about 4 weeks to get going but that is no excuse for amateurish defending.
Why, when every Bayern fan I speak to can see it, are the powers that be at the club unable to see that we need one or two top class defenders !?
Having said that even Lahm was poor last night, Badstuber is a great prospect but atm he is still not good enough for a lengthy run in the side.

    I've seen it coming.
Imo there are several reasons for this:

    a. Kaiserslautern had all the time in the world to prepare themselfs for this season. They are on fire, full of adrenalin and excited about being back in the 1. Bundesliga. The homegame against Bayern is kind of "symbolic" and loan for all the hard work they put in last season to get promoted. Most important game of the season for them.
Our team is mentaly tired from the World Cup and the tough, long run they had.

    b. Some of our "stars", underestimated Kaiserslautern. They somehow thought that if we can beat some of the best clubteams in the world, Kaiserslautern is to be beaten easily. Even if they didn't mean it, but subconciously they had that in their heads.

    c. We dominate nearly every game but dont create an awful lot of chances.
And if we do, we often dont put them away. Its been simular last year.
Our offensive minded gameplan leaves us vulnerable to counterattacks and we dont have the likes of Kahn, Sagnol, Lizarazu and Lucio back their anymore that get us out of trouble. Sometimes it seems like as if every good goalchance our opposition has, results in a goal. Wolfsburg last week didn't take their 100% chances. If they did, they could have scored 5 goals on our own homeground and it wasn't because our defence was so good, but because they wasted them.

Despite having been dominant in both games so far, we are very lucky to have three points. We could easily have lost both of those games and would have a crisis on our hands. I hope and I believe that we have learned from yesterday. Both, in terms of admiting that we need one or two signings for our defence to keep the competition there going, and also not to underestimate any opposition anymore.
