Well here we go, the 2nd and 3rd divisions have already started but we still have a short wait until 1BL kicks off in two weeks time. Tomorrow night however BVB and Bayern officially open the new season with the supercup in Dortmund. A glorified friendly of course but there is prestige on the line. Probable line ups : Dortmund : Bürki Passlack Socratis Bartra Schmelzer Castro Rode Dembele Götze Schürrle Aubameyang Bayern : Neuer Lahm Martinez Hummels Alaba Kimmich Vidal Thiago Müller Ribery Lewandowski
Ups, I just wondered where my previous postings in this sticky threads are until I realized that it's already the new season thread who is "stickied" (a bit of a hangover from saturday night it seems) To the "Super Cup": I'll watch this today (after the the PL matches Bournemouth vs ManU and Arsenal vs Liverpool) it would be the 3rd live match today. Normally I don't give a damn about the outcoming of this match but here it is interesting to see how the new players in Tuchel's team already fit in . Götze should be no problem but Schürrle. After the World Cup 2014 he underperformed for 2 seasons now. It's time that he "delivers". A pity that Boateng isn't fit yet. I would like to see the world's best defence in action with Boateng Hummels Lahm Alaba (if Ancelotti uses Lahm in the defence?). ++++++++ 2nd Bundesliga: I am over the moon. Eintracht Braunschweig won at St.Paul very convincingly with 2-0. It was the first win at the Millerntor for decades (at least 25 years I would say). And if Hannover wins today, too then 2 Lower Saxonian Teams would be on top of the 2nd Bundesliga.
Congratulations to Jerome Boateng: Germany's Footballer of the Year 2015/2016 Votes: Top-5 Jerome Boateng - Bayern München - 163 Votes Thomas Müller - Bayern München - 95 Robert Lewandowski - Bayern München - 90 Toni Kroos - Real Madrid - 68 Manuel Neuer - Bayern München - 54 Further Votes: Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang (Borussia Dortmund, 35), Henrikh Mkhitaryan (Borussia Dortmund, 35), Robert Huth (Leicester City, 16), Mario Gomez (Besiktas Istanbul, 13), Claudio Pizarro (Werder Bremen, 13), Philipp Lahm (Bayern München, 12), Joshua Kimmich (Bayern München, 11), Julian Weigl (Borussia Dortmund, 11), Mats Hummels (Borussia Dortmund, 8), Aytac Sulu (Darmstadt 98, 5), Leroy Sané (Schalke 04, 4), Jonas Hector (1. Anyone fancy Munich to actually be pushed this year? I'm hoping Dortmund can give them a run for their money, to make sure they can't rest players for the CL. Otherwise I can see them walking it under Ancelotti. I can't see any of the other teams making an impression in the League.
First round of the German FA Cup (DFB Pokal) began yesterday with 3 matches. No surprise so far Carl Zeiss Jena (Regionalliga Nordost - 4th League) vs Bayern München 0-5 FV Ravensburg (Oberliga - 5th League) vs FC Augsburg 0-2 VfB Lübeck (Regionalliga Nord - 4th League) vs St.Pauli 0-3 Carlo Ancelotti had mixed feelings about Jena, he mentioned. In his playing days with AS Roma in 1980 he played against Carl Zeiss Jena (back then a GDR club) in the European Cup Winners Cup. AS Roma won the 1st leg with 3-0 and were then destroyed in Jena with 4-0. He said that this was one of the most bitter losses of his career.
Bargain. It's the right decision. Otherwise he would go to the Premier League later (for the double fee, at least? ) edit: 1-0 HSV scored in the Cup Match against 3rd Div. Zwickau in the 70th minute. Newcomer Alen Halilovic (Barcelona/Gijon). Already worth the fee edit2: HSV won the match and advances to the next round. Not a good match but a win is a win. It's not so easy to win at a 3rd League side as it may seems. Ask Werder Bremen about it.
So, today starts the Bundesliga into its 55th season. As usual in the last years with a (short and boring) Opening ceremony and the actual Champion will open the season (again boring because it's now the 5th time in a row that Bayern will do that). The Game is of course shown live in German Free TV (one of very few Bundesliga Matches that you can see aside from Sky) Bayern vs Werder Bremen: Everything below 3-0 would be a surprise. Bremen already eliminated from the German Cup last week after they lost against 3rd League Side Lotte . Hopefully the "Fischköppe " will be relegated this time. Last season they survived with the last match.
Could have been 10-0. What a disastrous performance from Werder. Some of the new ones of Werder (don't know the name) had a cramp in the leg. Hilarious. btw: I wrote above 55th season but it's the 54th season. Embarrassing
Well that was savage. 10-0 is being generous, should have been about 12 or 13. One of the most one-sided matches I've seen in a while.
You are right, Werder is dreadful. But they didn't lose to a pure amateur side in the cup. Sportfreunde Lotte is actually playing in the 3.Liga. btw: Lotte are playing in the next round against Bayer Leverkusen. Bayern vs Augsburg. Interesting is the match between the old friends Schalke vs Nürnberg Here's the draw for the second round: DFB-Pokal 2016/17, der 2. Spieltag
a little detail: The 0-6 from Werder equalised the highest ever starting loss of a Bundesliga Team. Only once a team was beaten with 6-0 at the beginning of the season. Ironically it was Bayern itself who lost 0-6 in the first match of the 1974/75 season against Kickers Offenbach btw: This was the Bayern Team at that day (In bold are those who won the World Cup 74 with Germany only 6 weeks before Sepp Maier Jupp Kapellmann (didn't play in the final) Georg Schwarzenbeck Franz Beckenbauer Johnny Hansen Erwin Hadewicz Rainer Zobel Ulrich Hoeneß Karl-Heinz Rummenigge Gerd Müller Klaus Wunder
16 Goals today in the 3 matches of the 2nd Bundesliga Dynamo Dresden vs St. Pauli 1-0 Arminia Bielefeld vs Union Berlin 4-4 Eintracht Braunschweig vs FC Nürnberg 6-1 (!!!!) So, Eintracht Braunschweig now the only team with a perfect start 3 wins 10-2 Goals
Schalke 04 vs Bayern München 0-2 Normal result you may say but Schalke didn't deserve to lose this one. They played good for nearly 80 minutes and had some good chances. But that's the problem against Bayern. When you don't convert the chances they'll hurt you in the end and they did exactly that. Lewandowski in the 81st and Kimmich in stoppage time edit: Nearly forgotten to mention the Friday matches of the 2nd Bundesliga: Aue vs Eintracht Braunschweig 0-2 Stuttgart vs Heidenheim 1-2 WTF So, Braunschweig still with a perfect starting record 4 Matches - 4 Wins
Neuers save to tip Konplyankas (Think it was him anyway) shot onto the bar was world class, best save i've seen in a long time
