My car is normally kept in the garage overnight and tends to start fairly easily but last night it was left outside in the freezing cold and this morning it took around 20 seconds to start up.

Anything I can check on the car as to why it isn't starting up too nicely?

It's cold, the htr plugs may be a bit less than 100% so they take a few seconds to get up to temperature from freezing cold. Did you wait 'til the little yellow coil indicator went out on your dashboard before turning the key all the way?

Yes. Waited a good 30 seconds after the indicator went out but the car still started shocklingly...

Sounds like you need new htr plugs . . . or go back to putting it in the garage. :thumb

Mines the same at the minute but I know the battery needs replacing just can't afford it at the minute.

    05 TDCi yes?

I can't remember whether they have heater plugs or a manifold heater, but either way get them checked. Also, when was the last time it had a service? If it was a long time ago, it could be waxing in the fuel filter (common on diesels in this weather). Most garages are on winter diesel now, but if the filter hasn't been changed for a long time, it gets shitted up and coupled with the low temperature exacerbates waxing in the fuel, which in turn drops the delivery pressure from the pump.
