Burnley have made an official bid for Swansea City striker Jason Scotland. Scotland's agent, Mike Berry, has confirmed that the Premier League new boys have made a seven-figure offer for Swansea's 24-goal top-scorer. IMO it's a big risk....he's also 30 years old, meaning it's going against the plan to sign young talent
I think he could do a job for us, he got (I think) 24 goals last season and Patterson got 18, between them I think they could deliver the goods, plus don’t count out Thommo, I’m a huge fan of him and his hold up play is second to none and he always chips in with the goals. Just as long as the price isn’t too high.
UPDATE: Swansea City chairman Huw Jenkins has confirmed that the club has received an official bid from Premier League newcomers Burnley for star striker Jason Scotland. Scotland's agent, Mike Berry, revealed to the media that Burnley had made a bid "in excess of £1m" for the club's 24-goal top-scorer. The Swans chairman confirmed: "Burnley have made an approach for Jason Scotland, but our valuation for a player who has finished as our top scorer for the last two seasons is miles apart. "We value Jason very highly; after all he has scored 53 goals in the last two seasons for us." Only Wolves striker Sylvan Ebanks-Blake (25) finished above the Trinidad & Tobago international in the Championship goalscoring charts last season with Scotland grabbing 24 goals. "I think everyone in football is well aware now that we do not need to sell anyone,'' added Jenkins. "And we certainly won't let any player go for below what we think they are worth; whether that's Jason Scotland or anyone else for that matter.'' Berry, who claimed that Wigan were also interested in the 30 year-old, said: "Jason would like Swansea to seriously consider the bid because he has aspirations to play in the Premier League. "He has sweated blood for Swansea in the last few years and hopefully the fans have enjoyed his performances "But Jason has turned 30, he wants to play at the highest level and play in the Premier League and this is an opportunity for him to play at the top - and I think everyone at Swansea would agree he has earned the right to do so. "Negotiations are still on-going, but it is a substantial bid. I believe the bid from Burnley is in excess of £1m. But Wigan are very interested so it will be interesting. "Jason, though, is a Swansea City player with one year left on his contract so any deal - whichever club he goes to - has got to be right for Swansea." The Swans signed Scotland from Scottish side St Johnstone for just £25,000 in the summer of 2007 where he played under current Burnley boss, Owen Coyle. Looks to me like Burnley aren't meeting Swansea's valuation at the moment and we will need to increase our offer if we want to land him.
I certainly wouldn't pay much more, and end up over paying, for a player his age. Would have thought you would have looked to fill other gaps/needs over this one as a priority too.
I think Buurnley might go to £1.5m or just under £2m but wont go anywhere near the Swaansea asking price no matter how good they think he is. I happen to really like Scotland and will give us something different upfront. Didnt really see a championship striker unsettle our defence the way he did last season and was well worth his two goals.
More money than us? Didn't you hear.. we just made another silly amount of profit on a one season wonder. And bidding a million for a CCC Striker is hardly awe inspiring is it? Still, not here for a slanging match.
Coyle was just on SSN saying he's made no written offer for Scotland, still think we are very interested.
We all know what Coyle is like he wont speak about any transfers with the media until they've been completed or very close to being.
