If my instincts are right and we're replacing Wagner at the end of the season I'd certainly take Martin.
@JoshBCFC I wouldn’t stand for that, it’s car park talk. Anyway thanks for nothing Saints you useless bunch of ####s
Sarmiento must be on his way to become a bit of a cult hero at Ipswich. Last minute equaliser v Leicester and last minute winner for Southampton now.
You're 4th with the 3rd best squad in the league and that's only because another team are having an amazing season. It's a slight underachievement but there's plenty of good signs whenever I watch Saints. Do you think he'll actually lose his job if you aren't promoted? I'm guessing not.
I don't think so and it's not about losing. It's the manner in which it happens. Same shit every week. Playing the wrong players, poor subs and just allowing the team to sit back as the game goes on. Would imagine we are high on the table of losing points from winning positions. We just give up and invite pressure. We also have one of the worst starting keeps in the league.
Apologies to the Sunderland fans on here but GET IN!!!! 1st win away since Nov and 1st win after 10 games without. Forgot what that felt like and what a way to do it! A precious 3pts. Stuck in there the 1st 15 mins when we didn't show too much but once we went 1 up, we got better. Best I have seen us in a while. 1st time we've been able to start Gallagher, Szmodics, Dolan and Hedges all together this season and they did a great job, as did the returning Rankin Costello. Defence was solid for the most part. Sunderland struggled with our press and counter attack. Obviously Sunderland have a young team but do have some talent in there. We're just getting back to a point of being able to field a more experienced team which today has really helped. Hopefully next season Sunderland can rebuild and we'll still be up here.
**** me I don't believe what I just watched. We couldn't get near Southampton for 60 minutes was like we were chasing shadows. Game seemed to change with the subs we were all calling for, can't remember if that was before Al-Hamadi hit the post or not. This team just don't know when they are defeated. EDIT: Thought Flynn Downes was the best player on the pitch by the way. A real shame we didn't get to see him play along side Morsy at all for us.
He isn't a terrible manager, but if we want to get out of this league and avoid becoming a Stoke/Swansea then we need a change of management. Martin's style is too safe, hence the mid-table finishes at Swansea and MK Dons. It will only get you so far, but won't get you overachieving, or competing with the top and all too often have we dropped points, especially in the second half because we've reverted to slow, walking football, rather than keeping the momentum going in our direction. Look at Leicester today, they were relentless against a play-off team, a team we've drew against twice. McKenna schooled Martin today, Mowbray schooled him, Klopp schooled him with his Under-18s. Even Neil Harris has taught him a lesson twice this season, at Cambridge and at Millwall. There are better managers out there. Leeds picked up the promotion expert, Farke, we picked up the mid-table expert.
Massively deserved 3 points for you today. It was abysmal from the get go from ourselves, but never did I think we’d concede 5. We just had no leadership, no idea what to do when under pressure and we just totally crumbled. It’s criminal that every single goal of yours was pretty much inside the 6-yard box. I honestly cannot wait for this season to finish and we can appoint a competent manager, reinvest the inevitable funds we get from selling Clarke for £20m+ and rebuild. We must do better.
Yeah he’s gone. Just waiting for the official announcement. Presumably will come in the morning along with who the interim until the end of the season will be
Not sure what the Hull lad was thinking in giving that penalty away. If anything the Leeds player was going to just end up running it out of play. Very silly tackle to say the least
Of all the players to score a goal like that, wouldn't have imagined Dan James. Thought he'd have been closer to hitting the corner flag.
Can't imagine too many have been from outside the box, let alone wide and near the half way line. I remember watching him at CR terrifying Tim Krul with his pace closing down. He's always going to score goals at this level so I'm not too surprised with those numbers.
