Hi. So over on the Man U club section, they are being a bit slow in changing the name to their equivalent thread. So thought I'd set you lovely Scousers and Asians this up. You're welcome.
You can always have two. I'll get the ball rolling here with a common, relatable topic. Hey, so what about that Everton, aye. Don't you think they are pretty shit?
It depends on what you count and don't count as a trophy. I could twist it and justify my choices to make either team ahead. Only counting real competitions, they are one ahead, but we still have a Europa League to finish.
Yeah, scrapping all the crap like Charity Shields, Super Cups, World Club Cups, etc League, FA Cup, League Cup, European Cup/CL, UEFA/EL and Cup Winners Cup are all that should be counted. IMO Liverpool 43 Man United 42
It's a pretty simplistic way of looking at it though, as obviously some trophies are more prestigious than others. Is there any kind of points system? For example: League / European cup = 3 FA Cup / Other European trophy = 2 League cup = 1
Greater emphasis on the European trophies than FA cups for me, you only have to look at the opponents city have faced in recent FA cup wins to see how poor that trophy is now
I think 4 for CL, 3.5 for league, 2.5 for EL, 2 for FA cup and 1 for league cup is about where I’d place them in terms of importance.
Agree with that for the most part except the CL and League. I find it hard to separate the two. Like with United, when they were winning the league nearly every year, I took it for granted and wanted them to win more CLs. 'Just' winning the league, was almost like a poor season. At the moment though, would much rather see them win the league again than CL. That said, being in a CL final is a pretty special night. The comeback vs Bayern in 99 was probably my most enjoyable moment with football.
Main reason for ranking or lower was that an English (or welsh ) team has to win it, whereas there is a smaller chance of an English team winning the CL. Best night of my life was Istanbul but have to agree, winning the league was a dream (and sometimes a nightmare) for the past 26 years .
Winning the CL is kinda natural progression from winning the league anyway. You win the league, become the best team in the country and then at some point go on to win the CL. Liverpool's win in 2005 was a bit of an oddity as they were also-rans at the time. It's also odd that Arsenal have never managed to win it - Wenger gave them enough opportunities. I think simplest way of looking at it though. If you manage to win the league or CL, you can say you've had a pretty good season.
Difficult to get context given historically the competitions importance have altered. League Cup in it's infancy was not regarded as that important and FA Cup was as big a cup competition as there was. UEFA Cup and Cup-W-Cup were more prestigious than the Europa League too. The league/CL depends on where you are at as a club I suppose.
