It's a brand new competition and it's about time we collected our first trophy since 2008. take it seriously and you would like to think we would get very far... hopefully win the whole thing, the quality should be poor enough that we can make the new calendar year playing a shadow squad... let's just hope we don't underestimate teams too much. i guess a sensible tactic for Nuno might be to pack the bench with big players in case we get in trouble. Vitesse , Rennes and Mura (who i've never heard of) lay ahead of us in the group stages. harry kane is staying. LET'S BRING BACK THE GLORY DAYS!!!!!
Booked flights to Slovenia earlier so fingers crossed for fans in November. Definitely a competition we should be looking to win. Slightly tougher group that anticipated but no excuses to not top it. Hope we get a couple in so we can rotate adequately in this. Not sure that Vinicius did too much wrong last season when given opportunities in Europe, we've not really get anybody to do that this season.
yeah I was ever so slightly disappointed. Obvs we are the big boys of the group. However I don’t feel the group is weak enuff that we can stroll through playing a completely second string side. Think we probably can’t afford to be too complacent against Rennes and vitesse
The playoff round was the same. Admittedly Pacos looked rubbish on Thursday but I didn't think we'd have to be playing Portuguese opposition just to qualify for this competition. We've had easier Europa League group than this in the past. I've no doubt we'll qualify but would have been nice to have had an easier draw. Rennes away is the first game so hopefully we can set the tone early. I'd like to win that and probably not have to worry too much about games 5 & 6 in the groups.
i'll take that. win our home games and we should be fine. Mura away is probably a game we should look to win as well
Yeah, that was the toughest game of the group so not the worst result. I think Mura will probably take 0 points so it'll come down to how we do against the other two. Win at home and drawing away is fine.
One stress free game supporting this club is all I ask. A proper welcome to Spurs for Conte last night.
i guess the conceding of the 2 goals at least let conte know what he's in for... and what he needs to address
wot a f**king joke in a competition we were joint favourites in to win we are struggling to qualify from the group. how spursy
Not looking promising for tomorrow. I think we'll have to play it but sounds like new cases every day, partly because they're having to mingle and then discover someone else has tested positive. Don't think we'll play on Sunday but we're going to have to play a must win game tomorrow with a good number unavailable, plus Sessegnon suspended if not ill.
16 confirmed cases between players and staff right now? Shut down the training ground and send everyone home tbh.
I was wondering about that only yesterday. Glad you got it sorted, does seem unlikely it'll go ahead. Guess we'll have a better idea if the Brighton game gets postponed on Sunday. Can understand Conte's frustrations in the press conference today. Doesn't make any sense to risk people for a game of football. If it requires us forfeiting then so be it.
This is the issue with the Christmas period, coupled with high rates of COVID. Games come thick and fast and you end up running the risk of 2/3 games being cancelled. They'd do well to drop out of the Conference to give themselves some free weeks to make these games up. Looking like 3 league games they'll have on the backburner now.
To be fair, this is partly of Spurs own making. Not Covid obviously but West Ham went and won their first four Europa League games and had the group wrapped up with two games to spare. Spurs should be in the position they could send the under 12's tomorrow but they've pissed about and now it's come back to bite them. I sympathise with the Covid outbreak but not the risk that Spurs crash out of this competition. There's an element of justice that Spurs are in trouble tomorrow, if they were professional they could all be sat at home with their feet up this week anyway. Nuno left all of his first team players at home for the trip to Vitesse and now they look favourites to qualify at our expense.
So these were the list of players training today. One has since tested positive too. Gollini Doherty - Sanchez - Dier - Rodon - White Winks - N'Dombele - Lo Celso Dele - Kane - Bergiwjn Heard Harvey White is in line to play left-back which is the only reason I've put him in my team. It's not ideal but there's still a capable team in there, even if it leaves us light on the bench. Obviously doesn't account for whichever player has tested positive today. Sessegnon also suspended so unavailable, albeit training today.
That side doesn't seem too bad but it's an issue when you don't have time to wait for test results and have to continue preparing for a game and the extra positive tests come flooding in. Best case scenario noone gets seriously ill, but we're kinda forced to risk players and staff health and possibly jeopardizing the rest of our season because of it if some players actually get ill and have a longer than standard recovery. We're 2 years deep in this crisis, some protocols for outbreaks like this should be in place.
Three wins One draw Three defeats Ignoring the controversy around our likely exit, that's a horrific record in this competition. Seeing Spurs fans wishing for us to go out so we can concentrate on qualifying for a competition we'll be properly embarrassed in. The arrogance of this football club is astounding and it's cost us another good chance at winning something. I'm amazed we've reached a CL final because we've been knocked out of Europe by some pretty poor teams in the last 15 seasons.
i personally don't want to get knocked out because it;s probably our best chance to win a trophy since 2008. i suspect i'm in the minority tho
