It's been a long time since our last venture on the musical merry-go-round as we hunt the best songs of eras that have come and gone but the time has come for us to live another decade of amazing music! As of last night, I was bypassing this decade on the basis that I am not sure how long we will have to wait for the next one (which I suspect is the one most will be looking forward to) but having slept on it, I just can't change the order of play. So having previously found out that: Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen is our Favourite song of All Time Whatever People Say I Am, That's What I'm Not by Arctic Monkeys is our Greatest Album of All Time Do I Wanna Know by Arctic Monkeys is our best song of the 2010's We are now on the hunt for FF's Best Song of the Noughties (or 2000's for those unsure on the noughties). For those who have done this before, you'll know how this will go, but for those new faces who have joined the forum since the last of these in 2020 (what happened to the last 3 years?!?), below is what you need to do: Pick your top 10 songs that were released either as a single or as part of an album from 1st January 2000 up to and including 31st December 2009 and allocate them the following points: 12pts - 10pts - 8pts - 7pts - 6pts - 5pts - 4pts - 3pts - 2pts - 1pt - 12pts obviously to your best song and then working downwards to the 1pt selection. Then simply PM me your selections. When doing this, it would be nice for you to add some reasons for your choices against as many of your choices as possible, but especially the top 2. When I first did this with the Favourite Song of All Time, one of the reasons was to open up more music to myself and everybody else, and I still want that now. So it's likely there will be at least 2 rounds of voting (possibly more dependent on number of entries) but there will be no crazy ideas like I tried and failed with in the Greatest Albums countdown More will be revealed as we delve into the reveals! This was the decade where I bought the most music, not necessarily from this decade but it was comfortably the years where I had more money to spend on CDs. Lots to choose from methinks..

Not my decade for "new" bands and music. But plenty of the old crowd had decent new albums out. Hell, even Leonard Cohen and Brian Wilson had albums in Rolling Stone's Top 100 for the decade (Johnny Cash and Dylan had two each) - perhaps a comment on the age of the music journalists as much as the competition. Surely there must be a few songs from the likes of Jay Chou, Stefanie Sun and Jolin Tsai that feature on your play lists? Or maybe ... Surely the Ketchup Song made it to Singapore?
I'm finding it very difficult to whittle down at least 4 tracks from kid a/amnesiac to only 1 or 2. Shall the story be saved or can it be told?
Yeah knew that story, that moment when the strings and vocal climax is bloody magical, the tension/release was perfected on this album
Lot of competition for places beyond Radiohead, despite their brilliant run of albums this decade. Got those first two great albums from The Strokes coming in to reinvigorate garage rock and the resultant British iterations, such as The Libertines and Arctic Monkeys I'm sure will feature. Arcade Fire, The Killers, Bloc Party, Gorillaz all of course releasing great stuff other this decade too. On maybe a slightly obscurer note, I'll be looking at stuff from The Avalanches, MF DOOM (@Jonny Ninja I'm sure will be backing me up on that one, IIRC!), LCD Soundsystem, J Dilla and Animal Collective to round out my list. Very excited!
REM were very disappointing in the 2000s. Of the Americsn bands, Queens Of The Stone Age were very good, as were several Americana bands (yes, I'm looking at you, Papa M)..
A lot of big hip hop songs too. Eminem in particular had some of his finest work this decade, certain big hits like gold digger, crazy, milkshake amongst others.
Aye, that Marshall Mathers record. And one of my favourite albums, The Defamation Of Strickland Banks, came out four months too late to feature here..
