I try to read as little of your guff as humanly possible, pal.

Anyway, 4th in the NSS with Worthing in February. Budget is tiny, but enjoying the challenge.

Oh yeah forgot that they’re in the 2nd division in real life.
I hope your club goes in to liquidation.

Won the Canadian League with HFX Wanderers, but put the game down after the end of that season as I haven't had much time for it lately.

Will pick it back up at some point, I'm sure.

I'm into my 6th season with Betis on FM22, qualified for the CL every season but haven't finished higher than 3rd yet. Won a couple of cups and got to the CL quarters so it's been enough progress to be enjoyable.

Any of you lads playing FM23, is there a big difference from 22? I didn't buy it as the features didn't really draw me in enough to think it was worth the outlay initially.

It's the same as every year mate.. they do slight improvements with gameplay etc. This one is slightly different as to the scouting network etc, I buy it each and every year.

This was the first one I didn't buy as soon as it came out since 2004, it felt wrong but I felt this year's changes were really underwhelming. I might hang on for 2024 or the price to really drop

There have been overhauls to the scouting and the transfers, but once you've got to grips with it you'll realise it's not actually that much different save a few general yearly tweaks and additions. The main difference is the gameplay, as the AI will actively switch up what they're doing in order to counter something you're doing. Plug and play tactics still work but you should be tweaking them for your opposition, or at the very least having a main and a sit back tactic to alternate. Players get knackered if they're pressing for 90 minutes too, you have to balance it.

I would wait for a sale mate, especially if you're still enjoying your FM22 save. If you like you can download an updated player roster from sortitoutsi, that will put everyone in their current clubs if you start a new save with it.

Worth noting that it's free on Xbox game pass if you have that.

Got Spennymoor promoted to League Two in 2 seasons. Won the Vanarama North and National in consecutive seasons

Won 6 of my first 8 in the new season but lost my last 3  It’s a much tougher division but I have a very young squad.

Released a lot of plodders and players I knew wouldn’t have much of an impact in the EFL so had a huge turnover. Can’t remember how many have left but I’ve brought in 10 free transfers and 10 loans :D

FYI if anybody starts a lower league save and has the money, then absolutely sign Glen Taylor from Spennymoor. The guy got 49 league goals in Vanarama North, 38 in the National League and currently has 14 in 12 in League 2  He is a literal cheat code. Ridiculous.

Can vouch for Glen Taylor, 39 goals in the VNN, 2nd behind Kurt Willoughby for Chester with 45.

I've just done a season in the VNN with Gloucester - season preview suggested 13th and the club wanted a mid-table finish but I've managed to win the league (92 points, 1 above Spennymoor), lost in the final of the FA Trophy to Notts County, and got to the FA Cup 2nd round losing to League 2 Crawley. Some nice scalps on the way too.

Fun season, signed a new goalkeeper and left back but really used the main squad there, adding a few back-ups for depth throughout the season. Used a 4-3-1-2 at the beginning to try and get the best of a decent midfield, started really well but the mid-season blip hit, it was as if the players just couldn't find each other. Pushed one midfielder up into a 4-2-3-1 narrow tactic as an enganche (in the VNN ) and a couple of attacking mids around him and it seemed to correct the slide, not a perfect ending but managed to get over the line.

McClure with 35 goals in the season, during which he played 2 months with a fractured arm, was the difference maker really.

Quality, I love reading saves like that.

From that initial post you replied to I’m preparing for my first season in League One now — currently in pre-season struggling to sign people. Everyone wants upwards of £4k p/week. Whilst I can pay that, it limits me on how many signings I can make and I need an overhaul of the squad.

I spent 2 seasons in League Two. Finished 4th season 1, coming back from 4-1 down on aggregate to Crawley to win 5-4 to get to the final but a 14th minute red card meant I got beat by Gillingham. Romped the league next season with 101pts. Glen Taylor scored 32 goals first season and 25 last season at age 35 and have just extended his contract for 1-year for a shot at L1. He’ll be more of an impact player this season unfortunately.

Finally caved and started my first save on FM23. Straight in as Swindon of course. Won L2 with 100 points, Charlie Austin is a joke, scored something like 46 in 51 games. Started L1 in decent form with a fairly new look squad and another Charlie banging in the goals, this time McNeill from Man Utd.

I've just begun an attributeless save, so will just be going based on stats and scouting reports. Will be interesting!
