I've seen this game on a few other sites and it seems like quite a good laugh, so thought it'd be worth trying here.

Basically, the idea of the game is that everyone playing is PM'd a role and assigned to either Town or Mafia. The Town's objective is to lynch all members of the Mafia, while the Mafia have to avoid suspicion and get to a stage where they outnumber the town members.

Each day, the Town gets to lynch one person through a vote. Once that is completed, night phase begins and the Mafia can choose a player to kill during the night. While the Mafia are aware of their team-mates and can communicate outside of the thread, the Town aren't given this information and have to work it out through well-directed suspicion.

I can dole out the full rules if we get enough people to sign up, but it's quite simple and it's a good little game. So if you're down for it, sign up here. We need about 20 people to get the ball rolling...

FAQ

How do I vote?

Like this: I vote XXX. You must vote in the thread, as opposed to via PM.

What about the Mafia's votes?

They are allowed to vote on the day lynch just like the townsfolk. Their night-kill is separate to their votes on the lynch, so they will be able to use the opportunity and attempt to blend in with the town during the voting process.

Do I have to vote?

No, you don't have to. The town can also vote 'no lynch', so there is nothing forcing you to kill during the day phase.

Am I allowed to tell people what my role is?

Yes! And as the game goes on it is likely to become more and more necessary for townies to come forward with their roles (and potentially, for the mafia to fabricate theirs).

What are the times for the day and night phases?

Day phase - 10:00 to 22:00 GMT
Night phase - 22:00 to 10:00 GMT

RULES

OBJECTIVE

If you are TOWN aligned, then your objective is to kill every member of the mafia. Every Townsperson is victorious once the last mafioso has died.

If you are MAFIA aligned, then your objective is to get to a stage where the number of Mafia players left alive is greater than the number of Town players left alive.

HOW IT WORKS

The game begins with every played being randomly assigned a role. These will be PM'd to you by me.

During the day phase, players will be able to discuss their suspicions in the thread. The ultimate goal of the day phase is to determine which player will be lynched by voting in the thread. Once the day phase is over, the votes will be tallied up and the player who received the most will be killed. Once dead, the role of the lynched player will be revealed and night phase will begin.

During night phase, the Mafia will be able to pick someone from the town that they wish to kill. The Mafia's choice is revealed at the end of the night phase, and the dead player's role is also exposed. The next day phase then begins, and this continues until one side achieves their objective.

RULES

1. No discussing the game outside of the thread or in PMs (unless you are in the mafia or your role permits it).
2. Once dead, you are no longer able to post in the thread. A farewell "Urgh, I'm dead" post is fine but you must stay quiet after that.
3. No posting screenshots of anything I send to you in PMs. You should be trying to convince people through your words and actions, not through mine. Similarly, no direct quoting from my PMs - pass on the information in your own words, if you have to.
4. The town is allowed to 'No Lynch' at the end of a day phase. This option must receive the majority of votes.
5. If a lynch-vote is tied, nobody gets killed.
6. No editing posts.
7. Please cast your votes using Bold and Underline. If you decide to change your vote during the day phase, please write who you're changing your vote from as well. (EG: I change my vote from X to Y).
8. Deliberate and persistent rule-breaking could lead to you being modkilled.

THE THREAD

It might be a little difficult to know what to do on the first day. The idea of the thread is that the townsfolk discuss who they think may or may not be mafia, with the mafia trying not to draw suspicion towards them. The first day or two might be a little slow but as people begin to use their abilities, the evidence will begin to arrive. Expect things to get pretty heated at certain points in the game (that's how we know it's fun).

POSSIBLE ROLES

Town

Mayor - This player is confirmed as Town at the start of the game, and has the ability to cast two votes during the daily lynch.

Cop - This player has a number of investigations they can perform on other players. They will be able to send me a PM asking for the alignment and role of another player, which they will receive.

Doctor - Each day, this player is able to choose one other person to protect from the mafia night-kill. If the mafia target a protected person, then their kill will fail.

Siblings - Two or three players who are permitted to communicate with each other outside of the thread. Though normally town, there is the possibility that one of the siblings may be a member of the mafia, unbeknownst to their brother/sister.

Vigilante - This player has a one-off ability to kill another player during the day.

Bomb - If targeted for a kill, this player will take another man down with him. If they are lynched, a player who voted for them will randomly be killed as well. If targeted by the mafia during the night, they will take a random member of the mafia with them.

Lie Detector - This player can select a statement from another person and send it to me to have it lie-detected. Usually they will have a very limited amount of uses with this ability.

Universal Back-up - This player will inherit the role of the first town-aligned player with an ability to be killed.

Fool - This player can only vote at random.

Miller - This player is Town-aligned, but will show up as Mafia if investigated.

Vanilla Townie - This player has no special abilities.

Mafia

The Godfather - This player is the head of the Mafia, and can only be killed if his Bodyguard has already been taken down. If the town attempts to lynch the Godfather before the Bodyguard is dead, the lynch will fail.

Bodyguard - Has no special abilities, but whilst alive the Godfather cannot be killed.

Stalker - This player can find out the specific role of a Town Member. Limited uses.

Conman - This player can disguise the role of another player if investigated. They have a limited amount of uses, and can choose to disguise the role of either Town or Mafia aligned players.

Roleblocker - This player has a one-off special ability to block another player from using their power for a day.

Thief - This player has a one-off special ability to steal the power of another player and use it themselves.

Not all of these roles will be included in this game, and some roles may be included twice
