Guys and gals, I'm just going to run with this and see if we get any interest. I did try to obtain Quirks blessing to run it but he's not responded. Maybe he's not on as much these days and that's why he stopped running this. Seems a shame to stop something that has clearly been a mainstay on the forum though so here goes.

The rules are below (copied and pasted from previous games in the main)

Each week from now until the end of the domestic season, I will post a minimum of 25 fixtures from various leagues, though mainly English matches. The chosen fixtures are usually posted on a Tuesday to allow plenty of time to make a selection. Each poster then must decide which teams they believe will score the most goals with each goal counting as 1 point. You will pick 10 different teams to score points and one (which you should mark in BOLD counts for double points - if the team selected scores 3 then you get 6 points for instance). An 11th team should also be chosen from the list of teams and you base this on the team NOT scoring any goals. If this team fails to score you get 3 points but if they do score you'll lose a point for each goal they score. Finally, if all 10 teams score goals and the 11th team does not score, you get a 5 point FULL HOUSE BONUS.

Posts must be made prior to the games kicking off and once you have made the selection you should only edit prior to the kick offs. Any posts that have been edited after kick off of the earliest game will not be accepted. Exceptions will be allowed with postponments providing the game being selected has not already begun.

If for any reason a game is postponed, you get 1 point for each team you have chosen to score goals and 0 points for the team that you have chosen as not scoring. Abandoned games will be the same unless goals have already been scored by the teams involved in which case points will be awarded in the normal manner. A full house bonus is only possible if it includes just 1 postponed team, anymore and no bonus is possible.

If you fail to choose a Not To Score selection, then this selection will automatically revert to the team that scores the most goals from that weeks selection of fixtures.

The GOS Mini-League Series works as follows:

      • We will have 2 groups (The Best of the Best and The Best of the Rest) based on finishing positions last season - numbers in each group subject to numbers playing this season.
      • Each mini-league season will last for 6 weeks of the main season.
      • At the end of this 6 week period, the bottom 2 in The Best of the Best will be relegated and the top 2 of The Best of the Rest will be promoted.
      • Any tied positions will be decided by the scores of the tied players in week 6 (the final week) of the mini-season.
      • Points will then be allocated, at the end of each mini-league season, to players as below:
        • Winner of The Best of the Best = 10 points
        • Runner up of The Best of the Best = 5 points
        • Relegated from The Best of the Best = -2 points
        • Winner of The Best of the Rest = 5 points
        • Runner Up of The Best of the Rest = 2 points
        • Bottom 3 in The Best of the Rest = -3 points
Points will be tallied together and the player with the most points at the end of the season will be crowned the GOS Mini-League Series Champion.

For the 2023/24 Season (subject to numbers remaining healthy) we will have 3 groups in the Mini League Series and the points will be scored as follows:

    • Winner of the Super League Group = 10 points
    • Runner up in the Super League Group = 5 points
    • Relegated from the Super League Group = -2 points
    • Winner of the Premier Division Group = 5 points
    • Runner up in the Premier Division Group = 3 points
    • Relegated from the Premier Division Group = -3 points
    • Winner of the Pub Division Group = 3 points
    • Runner up in the Pub Division Group = 1 point
    • Bottom 2 of the Pub Division Group = -4 points

Any questions, fire away below and then you will be free to make the first weeks selection from the fixtures I will post in a new thread shortly.

Good luck, and here's hoping that we get a good response.

Thanks for taking this on mate!

Quirk has a lot of real-life priorities as the moment, so hasn’t been as active in recent weeks. I know he’ll be very happy somebody has taken it on this season.

    No problem mate.

I'd guessed the real world had taken hold of Quirk and it seemed a shame to let this one go by the wayside considering the amount of years it's been going. Seems like the interest is still there which is the main thing

Guys, a situation has occurred that I'd not really considered previously in that a player has missed out because they've been away.

If anyone knows they are going to be missing for any weeks and wants me to provide fixtures in advance then just let me know via PM and I will sort them for you.

Also, if you're away and/or don't have the time to post your selections but are able to let me know of this, then I will use a random number generator to make the selections on your behalf. I will limit this to 3 occasions during the season though to stop people from using it simply because they are lazy.

If anyone has any objections to these then just post (constructively) below

After what seems like no break whatsoever, the new season is upon us!

Rules will remain the same for the new season :D

I'm in - Although I tend to only check the L2 forum so I may well miss a few Saturday's, forgetting to come over to these foreign ends!

Less than 2 weeks until we all put ourselves through another 10 months of pain and that means another opportunity for someone to finish 2nd to Salop in GOS :D

Same rules as last season (see OP of this thread) will apply with the mini-league series running from week 1 this time around as I felt it added something for those of us stuck in mid-table  All of the usual cup competitions will be included as well so plenty of opportunity for success.

I'll get the first batch of fixtures posted in the next couple of days or so!

We are just over 2 weeks away from the start of the 2022/23 season and so it is time for the famous Goals on Saturday competition to return.

After the excitement of last season, it is Vanni who everyone else will be seeking to knock off his perch and with that 4 way Championship battle that went down to the wire, I am expecting hundreds of applicants to participate this season :D

Rules are in the OP of this thread and we will have the Mini-League and the usual cup competitions to offer something to everyone.

All are welcome, whether you have played before or not! This game is definitely better for having more players taking part.

The first batch of fixtures should be available over the course of this coming weekend so keep an eye out of that post!

@Tomohawk - I know I got loads of points from Non League last season and we now have a really busy NL forum, I want to post a sign up thread in NL to encourage some more players for the new season - can we make NL games regulars in the selections please xx

If you make a £100,000 'donation' to the Tomohawk political party, this will be guaranteed. I think that's how these things work in this country now or does it have to be in ruble only?

In all seriousness, I do try and regularly include fixtures that are relative to those taking part, hence the constant stream of Scottish fixtures for Andy last season If we get NL fans taking part then NL fixtures will become more of a regular feature

    We are back baaaaabbbbbbbbbbbbbyyyyyyyyyyy!!!!!!!

We are just over 2 weeks away from the start of the 2023/24 season and so it is time for the world famous Goals on Saturday competition to return.

It was another exciting season last time out, but it was SalopTillIDie who got his hands back on the league trophy after a year without the crown but previous champ Vanni ran him very close. Could this be the season when we see yet another new name on the league trophy? Who will claim the coveted cups and who will have the stamina to go the distance in the mini-league?

Rules are in the OP of this thread and we will have the Mini-League and the usual cup competitions to offer something to everyone.

All are welcome, whether you have played before or not! This game is definitely better for having more players taking part and we love welcoming newbies to the game

The first batch of fixtures should be available over the course of this coming weekend so keep an eye out of that post!
