It's a superb article, well worth a read. Though it's also really f*cking depressing.

Great article. All a bit pointless really isn't it.

It's why i want a European Super League, as shit as it'd be for the proper fans from the city of those clubs it's the only way to rid the game of the cancer of plastics, tourists and money.

The clock isn't going to be turned back though, and the ones at the top will always battle to stay there, the game's a mess and I don't see any way back.

I'm done with the game if/when European football replaces the League.

Its good article. Once football clubs turn into businesses there's no turning back. At this point a breakaway super league seems inevitable.

Does anyone think teams will drop their place names in the future, to become nomad like franchises? We could see The Devils @ The Gunners, hosted by King Fahd International Stadium.

I’ve wondered for a while if that’s the endgame. Club like Liverpool, United etc effectively playing a global league where games are played in grounds all round the world and the place name is dropped.

Even 20years ago that would’ve sounded crazy, but now... I honestly wouldn’t be surprised

No, that would require the adopting of a US model and is one thing Uefa don't want?

The only reason UEFA matters is for international football. If the league is international does that even matter anymore?

Surely Uefa governs the national Leagues?

Nope, they’re affiliated to UEFA but their own entities. UEFA doesn’t really have any say and if the clubs want to break away there’s nothing they can do except ban those players from European football

That's what I mean, Uefa oversee the game in Europe, and only those Leagues under their umbrella are allowed to enter the Cash Cup and Cash Cup Alson-Ran Cup.

But if the clubs/franchisees broke away from UEFA and formed their own competition surely there's nothing UEFA can do to stop it?

To be honest this is why I have an issue with foreign fans. They have totally changed the football market because some bloke from Asia or America thinks he supports Chelsea, meanwhile it's the people from the actual areas and communities that suffer.

Anyone who claims to have become invested in a sports team with which you have no local or family connection to is an absolute freak too, in my opinion. I see them on twitter sometimes claiming their dedication shouldn't be question because they're watching the game at 3am there or something. Why on earth are you doing that for a team you have no real connection to, based in a place you've barely been to. Get some mates

Edit- I don't support Bournemouth just because I like them, because I saw them winning on TV or something. I support them because I was raised going to that stadium, that same walk to the ground, going with my family. Seeing the same people in the concourses and pubs. It's about that, not the 90 minutes on the pitch.

That's exactly, and the only, reason i hate them. I love the fact people are interested in football all over the world, and i'll share a pint and a chat with anyone about it.

But the minute they attach themselves to a brand and f*ck over every other club (and community/ies associated with them) i want them to f*ck off forever.

I agree to an extent, I do follow an American football team but I do so because I enjoy watching the sport and following a specific team just makes it more interesting to me. I don't for one second believe I am just as much of a fan as someone from that location though, that seems absurd to me.

Any new competition would have to be good to go immediately, and I can't see the richest clubs across across half a dozen Leagues ever agreeing a satisfactory deal. :hmmm

I can, but i think it'd be based on one single agreement, each team sells it's own TV rights and is able to stream and sell all their own games. That kind of revenue would make them settle a lot of differences very quickly.
