Rumours doing the rounds that Scottish football will be ended for this season soon. Celtic declared champions, no relegation and no punishment for teams that go into admin. Really hope that is not the case and if it is then surely they would have to prove that this epidemic put them into admin.
I agree that if its impossible to complete then current standings must be final. It's the only way you could nominate teams for UEFA competitions next year and the gap makes the decision easy. Have you seen the latest rumour for English football?
Changes day by day ! Think they want to compete the season but the clubs want thier money for next season.
I think the easiest way to do things is to finish this current season whenever football gets back to normal. Then we can assess the timescale and formulate the following season from there. That way, everyone knows where they will stand. We can suspend player movements and create a scenario where players who are out of contract soon can be given extensions if needed. Maybe not ideal but surely that should be the thinking for every league that's been halted.
They are talking about a quarantined camp in the Midlands for all teams and games being all finished in 2 or 3 weeks .
I think that suggestion was from a few weeks ago in the Mail. Seems to have re-surfaced again. Won't be any football if the self isolation rules are still in place. Premier League discusses isolated camps for hosting remaining games amid coronavirus pandemic
If they bring in no punishments for going into admin that is a huge helping hand to Rangers. They are on the brink of admin now before the epidemic kicked in. The league was finished weeks ago. At a time where there is more important stuff going on i'd keep my eye on any new measures being brought in by Scottish football.
Its all about the money I feel - they don't want to lose TV revenue and have clubs suing them if they can. Like you say in reality the most important issue is people's health but businesses are trying their best to survive.
An article on the BBC site basically saying clubs want their money for next season in time... Well what happens if we are still isolating and social distancing?
I see CanalPlus in France are refusing to pay out any more TV cash that's due to clubs over there. This will snowball.
I can't see football returning anytime before July, then you need a pre season etc. A new season wont kick off this year unless they call or void the current season. The SPFL will be waiting to see what happens in England first before they make a decision that no matter what way it is will create massive fall outs from the clubs. I also expect teams to look a bit unrecognisable in the PL and a lot more academy players to be pushed into the first team.
As a Coventry fan whose team are top of the league, I've no idea how it will end. I think even if it is behind closed doors in June maybe, the current season should be completed. I mean, how can you start a new season, without finishing the old one?
Belgium have brought their league to an end. Current places stand as final and Club Brugges are declared champions
Interesting precedent. They were effectively seven points clear, with eleven games remaining, and will have had to play second placed Gent twice.
UEFA have hinted that leagues that null and void will be unable to put forward teams for european competition.
