    Right any help on anything regarding this subject would be helpful. I have a Nikon D3200 and Ive heard you need an accessory like a Intervalometer. Which one is the best for my camera and what software would I need to make the magic happen. /

    Yup, an intervalometer is needed. I can't help you there as I use an app on my camera. A tripod is essential too.

    The main thing I can't get my head around is after you've taken the photos - you have to edit each photo not just the usual levels etc post-production, but you also have to crop it to 16:9 and crop them all at the same points of the photo. I have Elements 11 and can't edit more than around 40 at a time, and putting the crop area at the bottom/top of the pictures each time. After that making a video out of them is another minefield - the video I made has random chopping in it.

    It's just a minefield and even searching YouTube and Google for hours I'm none the wiser, so can't be bothered with it anymore. Shame.

    Unless you want really good quality images, if you have a smartphone or tablet there are plenty of apps that can do this.

    I tried one on my ipad mini;

    I set it to take a picture every minute (you can adjust this in settings) and left it on the bedroom window sill looking out over the garden and towards the clouds. This was the Sunday before the storm hit later that evening the other week. I managed to get about 3 hours of footage before the battery ran out (I need to contact the app maker as there should be a function that turns the screen off as this is the biggest battery drain) and it wasn't too bad. I'll try and put a link to it on here in the next day or so.
