The number of competitions / number of games are fine as they are. The clubs / managers that tend to moan the most are those with everything weighted in their favour already. The biggest resources, the best players, entering the cups at a later stage, having competitions seeded in their favour. I appreciate the quality and intensity is perhaps lesser but lower league clubs play 8 more league games, potentially have the playoffs too, enter both cup competitions at an earlier stage and play an extra domestic cup competition too. The only competition I'd remove would be the Nations League as I really don't see the point to it.
What, no Johnstone's Paint Trophy / Auto-windscreens Shield / Papa John's Pizza Cup? You haven't lived until you've followed your club through that lovely slice of English football
This is a thread in the Premier League section... What is the Auto-windscreens shield? I've never heard of it before?
The Nations League is to replace the friendlies that everyone complains are "pointless". I thi k it also gives another route for qualification to the EUROs, but the format is beyond my intelligence
Not directly. I think the winners of their group or whatever are rewarded a playoff spot but you don't go straight in to the Euros. They're just glorified friendlies as far as I'm concerned. Other than playing countries of a similar level I don't really see much point to it. The international breaks also seem to have jumped from two games each break to three for some reason.
Really wanted to win is back in our league 1 days. It's become much worse now it's full of reserve teams too, but still gives clubs a change at getting to Wembley i guess.
Traditionalist, keep them all. Yeah we mock the League Cup as a Mickey Mouse competition but it is a trophy. Many clubs would love a day out at Wembley and a trophy to go in their cabinet.
I'm not so sure the League Cup is mocked anymore, Taff. Clubs play their reserves in the opening round or two but by the time they're in the last 16 they're all out to win it. Haven't Man City won it loads of times lately?
It is laughed at by supporters of clubs who don't reach the final. So fickle are some yet if their team won it they would be pleased.
Easily the greatest day I've ever had as a Blues fan, that magical day in 2011 will live with me forever. And if it wasn't for that spineless git david Ellery we'd have beaten Liverpool in 2001. I'm not bitter..
2014 winners & yet I'm proud to say I've never watched a game & never will so this the League Cup & Nations League wouldn't be missed one iota .
