I dont know about anyone else about the same age as me, but I feel completly cheated of the 1990 world cup being oly 5 at the time, and comming from a rugby family, i didnt watch it and now, i wish i had seen it, i wish i had seen lineker doing that signal to bobby, about gazza being off his ead, i wish i had suffered phycos penalty mind you, i will always have the momories of the greatest footballing occasion ever, euro 96
i faintly remember italia '90. I remember collecting medal coins of all the countries from the BP petrol garage to put in a book. I still got that somewhere. The matches themselves i cant remember but i filled out the fixtures sheet as teams went out and qualified etc.
I don't remember the coins, but I do remember the United Arab Emerates! ------------------ P..P..Pick up a penguin
Oh to be young again - Spain 82 (and Argentina 78) are still clear in the memory. Gerry Armstrong scoring the winner against Spain was sheer bliss then holding on for half the game with 10 men.
I remember Italia 90 well and Mexico '86 ------------------ "Some people regard football as a matter of life and death - I don't agree with that attitude - I can assure them it means much much more than just that" ~ Bill Shankly
Yeah me too Woozer.Lineker's hat trick against Paraguay or Poland in 86 and in 90 Lineker's vital 82nd minute leveller against the Germans in Turin!!!
Cjm, Lineker scored the hat trick against Poland in 86. For me Italia 90 was tye greatest football tournament I can remember. It was when I was forst introduced to football and it brings back so many memories and emotions. Euro 96 was good cos it was in England and everyone was caught up in a wave of euphoria , but 1990 brings back most memories for me
Anyone ever see the incident from the 74 WC where the fella from Zaire kicked the ball away from the freekick awarded to Brazil???
Kampso - yes mate - quality - they showed it not so long back on Fantasy football league - remember that programme with Baddiel and Skinner. CJM - Remember Platts last minute of extra time winner against the Belgians. What a volley! He was unheard of until then. ------------------ "Some people regard football as a matter of life and death - I don't agree with that attitude - I can assure them it means much much more than just that" ~ Bill Shankly
And yes I did colect the coins LOL Does anyone remember some of the players in that Tournament for England ??? Mark Wright Terry Butcher Neil Webb !!!! Trevor Steven Steve Bull HAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA Ohhhh happy days ------------------ "Some people regard football as a matter of life and death - I don't agree with that attitude - I can assure them it means much much more than just that" ~ Bill Shankly
The squad wasn't that bad Woozer - Gazza, Peter Beardsley and David Platt on top of their form and a last chance blast for Peter Shilton The glory days ------------------ P..P..Pick up a penguin
Pete matey I think you misunderstood me - that England side was the best since '66 and all that - semi finalists ! It'll be a few years till that happens again. The whole team were fantastic - i still have the video of the tournament, it just makes me laugh when I wonder where the **** some of these players are now ??????????? ------------------ "Some people regard football as a matter of life and death - I don't agree with that attitude - I can assure them it means much much more than just that" ~ Bill Shankly
it is strange you remember players being the best around and now, their playin every other week for a sunday league team, or coaching in scotland
Sorry Woozer - I feel like a twat now I'm not sure where they are, but I hear Paul Parker and Neil Webb both work in Chip Shops
Off the top of my head I think I might be able to name the rough starting line up for that tournament .... GK. Peter Shilton (who else ??) RD. Paul Parker (Didnt United sign him from QPR ???) CD. Terry Butcher (Some of the lads who dont remember him might of seen pictures of Terry with a blood covered head bandage - going back a few years now mind - hero) CD. Mark Wright (Absolute shite but another blood covered victim of the early 90's - Liverpool former Southampton) LD. Cant quite remember ... England must have still had probs in them days filling the left sided positions ... might of been Stuart Pearce ... in fact it was. Missed the all important penalty in that tournament against the Krauts. Midfeilders (in general, coz there was so many I can remember what positons roughly they actually played). Paul Gascoingne (God), Neil Webb (LOL), Trevor Steven (Evertonian), Bryan Robson ( Got sent home after and injury in the first phase), Chrissy Waddle (missed the other penalty against Germany for England, but I always like Waddle - he played like a winger was supose to play - quick and swiftly!), Was John Barnes there ???? I cant remember seeing him in any of the games ? Up front. Linekar (who else?), Peter Beardsley ( yes old hunchback was there), Steve Bull (Only member of the England party from a second division club), and ..... who else have i missed out ???? Im sure i can recall a few more if i checked a few videos, books and websites but can anyone else remember any others from the tops of their heads ? ------------------ "Some people regard football as a matter of life and death - I don't agree with that attitude - I can assure them it means much much more than just that" ~ Bill Shankly

Woozer, you missed out Platt & Walker. John Barnes was there but was dropped for Platt for the cameroon and Germany games. I think Gary Stephens was there aswell. No.2 Keeper was Chris Woods and N0.3 was....wait for it...Dave 'salad cream' Beasant.
