...after 15 years at the club. Julian Speroni to depart Crystal Palace after record-breaking spell Signed from Dundee in 2004 for just £400k. Went on to break the record for the most clean sheets ever kept by a Crystal Palace goalkeeper (112). A top professional and an even nicer bloke. What a hero
Julian Speroni will not feature in Crystal Palace vs Bournemouth, says Roy Hodgson Just play him anyway Roy you old coot.
Not playing him in a dead rubber game seems ridiculous. At least we’ve confirmed Bruno will play and captain is against City.
Supposedly Speroni's told Roy not to pick him as he wants us to play our strongest team and win. Even if that's the case I still don't see the harm in sticking him on the bench and giving him five minutes at the end. The game's potentially worth £3.8m in prize money but giving him a little cameo isn't going to make a shit of difference, especially if we're winning/losing by a couple of goals. Poor if he doesn't play IMO, but to be fair in his last game he played an absolute blinder, won MOTM and kept a clean sheet against Spurs in the cup, so maybe he wants to end on that memory.
4 million against how many years service? FFS, he played against us when you won 5-0 didn’t he? Roy keeps showing that he doesn’t get the club. You bent over both games against us and now this. 400 odd games for you lot and he doesn’t even get on the bench? Even ignoring my obvious bias; that’s pathetic. As I said; Bruno is retiring. He’s captaining us for our last game so he gets a proper goodbye. What does Speroni get?!
I agree TBH. It's poor. Roy should tell him he's getting five minutes regardless. Unless he's winding us all up... Not really Roy's thing though. I'm missing the game so from a selfish point of view I'll actually be quite happy if he doesn't play. He was immense in that Spurs win and it felt like the perfect way to end it. Maybe he doesn't want to taint that memory by letting Dan Gosling twat a brace past him in a 0-4 loss.
PS - he only joined in 2004 so wasn't at the club when we beat you 5-0. In fact his first ever game against you came in your first defeat at the Amex (the FFS Murray game). He probably peaked the following season in the playoffs with that save from Barnes and an equally good one from Deeney in the final. The ironic thing is he was f*cking awful in his first season (04/05). If we'd stayed in the Premier League on the final day we may well have sold him that summer.
