    Hello Bladesmen,

My pal and I are coming up to Yorkshire for our game on 18th August and we would like some recommendations for pubs and bars pre-match (and the night before).

Anything with relatively cheap booze/food and loud music considered. Preferably walkable to the station and stadium and welcoming of away fans (although we won't be wearing colours).

    Cheers, and welcome back!

If you're coming up on the Saturday the main places for a drink at night are Ecclesall Road, Kelham Island, Leopold Square, West Street and Division Street. Everything will be cheap compared to London so it depends on your taste

Kelham Island is better for real ale drinkers I find. Ecclesall Road tends to be more expensive, and a bit more pretentious depending on where you go (I tend to go there with the Mrs rather than the lads). Leopold Square, West Street and Division Street are all next to each other, there's loads around there. All of these have plenty of places for food so you'll be fine.

    Google Maps

Before the game, The Beer Engine is decent and lets away fans who aren't dickheads. The Sheaf Island is a Wetherspoons on Ecclesall Road and I'm sure they let away fans in. The Sheffield Tap at the train station and The Howard across the road let away fans in. I'm sure you'd be fine anywhere in town and it's not far to walk either. I reckon most places in the centre will let you in anyway if you're not wearing colours.

    Lovely stuff, thanks Daz!

Neither of us are pretentious/ale drinkers so we'll stick to the other places you mentioned.

Haven't been to Brammal Lane since our promotion season in 03/04. Can't wait!

No worries mate, I hope you enjoy the trip up. Writing it made me want a night out, which is a rare thing now with a 3 month old!

Should be a cracking atmosphere for our first game back, so hopefully you get to see the place in full voice :thumb

It's a rock club, dingy as hell and you'll stick to the floor wherever you go but it was brilliant when I was 18-21. Your shoes would never come out the same colour.

Maybe. Though they do quad vodkas for a ridiculously cheap price. Well when I went they did.

They still do. Tom Walker refers to it in that 'You and I' song

I remember the mixer for those was WKD, so not even a non alcoholic drink

Went there three times as my mate went to uni there. Much preferred Leadmill. Thankfully I don't go clubbing much at all anymore.

Sounds exactly like the Black Sheep Bar in Croydon (RIP). I wasn't even really into rock/indie but loved that place. Always came out with my trainers soaked in snakebite and black.

Yeah, looking back you wonder why you loved these places but they were great. If I went in now I bet I'd hate it.

To be fair, I feel old when I go to some bars in town these days and I'm only 31

There's loads of students here so it's expected. I'm sure I didn't look that young at 18...

Good luck with that one

Sheffield is one of the UK’s best locations for real ale drinkers.
So many pubs in and around the city centre with a massive choice of real ales and continental lagers.
Some pubs/ bars are almost like attending a beer festival. It’s probably worth doing some research and organising a pub crawl.

If you’re coming in the train, there’s actually a bar inside the train station called “The Sheffield Tap”, which has a huge selection of real ales and continental lagers, check out their web site as it shows their current list of drinks at the bar,

Also agree with Daz, our first home game back in the top flight against Palace will have a very special/ loud atmosphere.
