Knock out football starts this Saturday with Wales v Denmark and Italy v Austria. No 2nd chances with another group game to fall back on. Of course will think Wales will beat Denmark but really am bricking it as the Danes have burst into life while we haven't really got going. Hope Mister Bale has got his scoring boots on as need him for the biggest game since the last biggest game.
Anyone know what odds the bookies have on Wales and England winning their last 16 games? Is it too early as we dont know who we are playing? Two of my friends are called William Hill, what are the odds on that?
I fancy Wales to win. Belgium v Portugal looks tasty and who knows if England can beat Germany! Certainly possible.
Germany it is. Well if Hungary can almost beat them .. Winner would get a good 1/4 final draw . We will need to be better I feel
They looked shit tonight, shit-hot against Portugal and OK against France. Either way, the English press are going to intolerable whether we win or lose.
This is a good time to play Germany - if we can't beat them in their current state then an "easier" route to the final would have just been delaying the inevitable anyway.
Think Southgate will opt for 3-5-2 Pickford Saka Maguire Stones Walker James Rice Henderson Grealish Kane Sterling
Not sure how to feel about our chances. Comfortably beat Hungary which at first didn’t seem that impressive but after their results against Germany and France it’s not looking too bad As long as Santos keeps a similar team to tonight, with Palhinha in place of Danilo I think we can certainly beat Belgium. Our side of the draw looks incredibly difficult though
Maybe. To me there's two types of fans people often think of as intolerable when it comes to England though. And personally I yhink the over-optimististic group is still infinitely preferable to the other group who moan about international breaks and their club players getting injured for England and who claim "they'd rather see their club win a corner than England win the World Cup". But then claim to be a fan every time a tournament comes round even though they're not really fussed deep down. Just because they think it gives them leverage to shit on England and say "I told you so" and "same old overhyped players" when they don't even care.
Last 16 thread. And Germany is still there. Odd! yes, almost . (tbh I felt a bit sorry for the Hungarians yesterday. I could've lived with the intermediate 1-2 as end-result if France vs Portugal had also ended 2-1 and the Portuguese were out). Anyway, now England. Was my nightmare before the tournament to play them at Wembley again during a tournament and I'm still sceptical especially after yesterday's match. But Löw promised that "we'll see a different Germany next Tuesday" Ach! Was nearly his last match yesterday, after 15 years. He was granted a "reprieve" and at least another one. But it's time to say goodbye. Leon Goretzka nearly 60 minutes on the bench again and Leroy Sane in the starting lineup instead. At least Goretzka saved you another match when he came in. Hope you let him start now, ffs! edit: Win or lose in regular time, please. No penalty shootout again The next round starts only Saturday. Damn, what should I do until then? I need my daily Euro match
There's always Copa America to watch & fill the void or you could give T20 Cricket a go , England v Sri Lanka at 6 tonight The biggest match of last 16 arguably , you've had a lot harder tests than we have too tight to call , should be good but won't be a classic !
Totally forget about it. Haven't seen a single minute yet. Don't know if it is even shown here in German TV (free or paytv). Maybe if I could find a decent streamingsite (the one I normally use, hesgoal.com, is very dodgy atm) Cricket , that's a good one! Biggest match, for me, is #1 Belgium vs #5 Portugal. This one here is only #4 England vs #12 Germany, but I know what you mean. It's a classic encounter and the emotions are high (more on the english side, though, I think) I'm only thankful that I'm actually not in the UK (like I was during the Euro 1996) and don't have to endure the gutter press headlines.
Hungary showed how Germany can be got at, with a whole lot of defensive organisation, commitment and aggression off the ball, and then bravery and willingness to open up when on the ball. We can do all those things and we have better individuals than Hungary. My worry is Southgate would rather play in 2nd or 3rd gear most of the time sitting tight and then keeping safe possession. We won't show the required aggression or bravery. Over the course of 90+ minutes the Germans will out-think us and expose some cockup from a Mings/Maguire/Stones.
Couldn't agree more. My post was primarily aimed at those bores TBH. I'd love nothing more than to see us shithouse our way to the final and shut them all up, although they'd probably still find a way to drop a period.
