Barnsley have made an official approach for Michael Duff. Frankly, I don't see him going, but nothing surprises me in football these days.

Also seeing that Matt Taylor is looking more and more like going to Charlton.

Why don't you see him going? He probably has a higher ceiling with Barnsley than with Cheltenham.

I think he's waiting for something bigger - they're also making enquiries with a number of coaches, not just Duff.

    Exactly that.

Duff will go at some point - I'm not naive or stupid - but he's made it clear it has to be the correct role. I don't think Barnsley is what he'll be looking at.

There's every chance I'm talking our of my ass though.

Ben Garner going to Charlton from Swindon?

Did well there but no so good at Bristol Rovers so a mixed management record so far.

There will be bigger pressure and expectation at the Valley and of course a league higher.

I still don’t know what to make of Garner.

Likes he’s clearly an academy coach transitioning into management.

We try and play like Man City, you do that with L1/L2 players you get mixed results. Sometimes we look brilliant and could put play anyone. Sometimes we look suicidal with the ball trying to pass it. We score great goals but also give the ball away inside our own penalty area.

We’ve torn teams apart but also looked so laborious and slow - almost like we were more interested in possession and passing stats than scoring goals.

I must admit I was surprised to see we were the top scorers in L2.

Sometimes the football is good, sometimes dire and others boring as ****.

Garner can’t see a game out. There is no game management aspect. If a team start knocking on the door they’ll score. We let a 1-0 lead slip to 9 man Colcheter ffs.

Also we relied on McKirdys goals. Why did it click last year. Was it because Harry grew up or was it great coaching from Garner?

Because we started the season basically dead and with only 6 pros (who weren’t getting paid) Garner has had a bit of free hit this season.

So, after all that I have no idea how he’ll do or whether he is any good…or whether I’m even sad/gutted he’s going

Like, we started the August with 6 players. We finished in the play offs and were a penalty kick away from Wembley…and our fans are kinda ‘meh’ that he’s gone.

I’m not sure if that says more about our fanbase or Garner himself

Very underwhelming appointment indeed. Another one like Burchnall at Notts who hasn't achieved anything despite nice football

To be honest, I'd always trust our local sports journo over the owner anyway.

Matt Taylor never looked likely to go to Charlton. They didn't even approach him. It was just bookies being bookies. And newspapers being newspapers. Matt Taylor called it out recently saying it was nonsense and paper talk, I doubt he would be interested anyway as he's got a baby on the way and his family are settled down here now. Was just nonsensical rumours because he was a former player for them.
Matt Taylor says Charlton Athletic links are just 'paper talk'

“It’s more paper talk, bookies are putting two and two together in relation to what they see as a former player that’s had a bit of success. I don’t really know what profile of manager they want to go down, but I know they have had a few managerial changes in recent seasons, so it’s a case of listening and waiting for anything to come through and if it does come through, then we will address it accordingly.

“What I will say is that I am more than happy with where I am at Exeter, my family is settled in Exeter – we have the baby on the way – so sometimes, there are more important things than football as well.

Sounds like a man who's just missed out on a job he fancied.

Absolutely not - Did you miss his speech at the LMA rewards? He can't stop going on about the model of fan ownership and its importance etc

You'd have had to chuck a lot, and I mean a lot, of money at him before he would have even considered it.

He'll be staying here for the foreseeable future, unless there is stupid money for him to go elsewhere - With the exception of a NW club where he'd probably consider even on the same money.

Yeah, I was joking anyway to be fair.

He'd be mad to give up what he's got at Exeter to join our circus.

That is what I thought about Rob Edwards- particularly how the deal was done too .

    Managers are just like players.

They will go to whoever pays them the most money. Anything they say about loyalty to the club or good dressing room or bought into the project is just soundbites to appease the fans.

I mean why wouldn’t Rob Edwards want to go work for Watford. They’ll pay him a decent salary, 3 months work and they’ll sack him and pay him off the remainder of his contract.

It’s probably more financially beneficial for managers to get sacked every 6-9 months than stay on a job for years at a time.
