Now that Rafa's future is secure, what players do you think we need to bring in this summer to give us an even greater chance of winning the premier league?

Also if you have heard any strong rumours of players coming to anfield in the summer, please post their names as well, thanks.

We have to be realistic here, can we afford big names or are we going to go for players with the work ethic of Kuyt etc.?

Questions such as is Agger still going to be here? Can Hyypia manage another season? Is Darby going to be good enough to cover for Arbeloa? Should we spend £20 million on a striker as cover for Torres and do we really need a multi-million pound striker?

I think we need all of the above, but it'll take a few years to get them in and adapt to Benitez's style.

*Central defender: Albiol has been linked and I think we need someone in who can cover for Mascherano too, which apparently he can do.

*Right back: Is a definite concern if Arbeloa's injuries continue and if it's true what's been reported, he's homesick too. Glen Johnson if Pompey go down?

*Striker: Tevez, Rooney and Berbatov are all fantastic back-up for each other and can play together and in various positions too. Do we need a direct replacement for Torres? Not neccessarily, but we need someone who can come in and fill the gap and do a great job.

Silva has been mooted as a potential target and I feel he'd be a good addition, but unknown yet is his value and if he'd be willing to play in England.

We need some proper backup at RB.

Personally, I'm very happy with the squad.

I'd struggle to find who we should drop from our current best 11.

Maybe LW? A world class LW player? Will Babel make it? Is Riera good enough?

Certainly not RW before everyone jumps on that Quaresma esque bandwagon. I told you he was sh*t and Kuyt was the man.

I always say we should sign players for the 1st 11 and not the squad, but just who is going to get dropped? Torres? Kuyt? Alonso? Mascherano? Gerrard? Carra? Skrtel? Arbeloa? Reina? - would you drop any of them?

We should take a punt on someone like Keirrison?

its a tuff 1, we need cover players thats obvious, glen johnson i would like for RB, a defensive midfielder who can offer better than lucas, yaya toure lol and a striker is a MUST, but who, i wouldnt mind aguero, but unlikely, VILLA, said but wont happen, simply cuz it wud be too good to be true, if we got villa, we would win the league for sure, cuz all we are lackin is goals when torres is injured, and villa will always put them away as he has everywhere he has been, i wud chase villa non stop, give valencia what they want,

Everytime Glen Johnson comes up against a decent player he gets completely and utterly shown up. I know he is English and that's gonna count for something with most people (not least UEFA and its draconian rules) but Glen Johnson is sh!te.

Lucas aint a defensive DM in my opinion.

...and Ricky...what are you going to do with Villa? Have him on the bench when Torres is fit? Villa is a great player but I don't think Torres and Villa at the same club is something I'd pursue if the idea isplaying them together. If he would be backup and if we could afford him, he would be superb backup. But both of those things seem unlikely.

You can put money on Rafa first target being Barry, hes had another first class season, the only difference i can see is Lucus going not Alonso.

I'd like to see a new right winger come in, Kuyt is good in the big games and against top opposition but for teams that park the bus he is next to useless. I'd like to see us go for either Schweinsteiger or Srna, Silva would be my preferred choice but whether we can afford him is a different matter entirely. I'd also like us to sign a striker to play with Torres for certain games and for back up for others. I think Carew or Llorente would be ideal options.

Rafa seems to like players who can cover a multitude of positions.

Srna would be a great shout but he did say this:

"I will leave Shakhtar only when I stop getting place in the starting lineup. I want to win something great with Shakhtar. For now I don't want to leave Shakhtar even if Manchester United make an offer."

As YNWA mentioned, Albiol would be a fantastic signing.

    Didn't hear that

For the right back position, I think Rafinha would be someone to look at, a lot better offensively than Arbeloa.

I think what Liverpool really lack is a top winger who could provide a wide presence as a passing option down the flank. As MrPremiership had earlier stated, Babel ain't gonna make it to claim the starting spot his own, Riera is an average winger who isn't very good, Kuyt is not fast nor skilful enough. I'd say get both Silva & Young, and things could really change upfront. The former possess excellent technique, able to read a pass from the midfield and has a wide passing range that can help to retain possession. The latter on the other hand, have the electrifying pace required to beat many full-backs in one-on-one situations and can swing in a pin-point, accurate cross into the six-yard box regularly. (yeah admit it, you guys have no decent crossers) A cover for both Arbeloa & Torres is a must too. The likes of Aguero, Villa is too much to ask for. What, 30million pounds for a back up striker? How about Marc Janko? Glen Johnson as a back-up for Arbeloa sounds safe too.

I think Rafa will try & sign a top right back & a top class wide player to got straight in to the first 11

Any other signings will be to add quality to the squad imo.

If affordable, I'd risk the entire budget on David Silva. He can play both flanks, as well as doing a decent job up front, should Torres get a few niggly injuries. He's also settle in nicely, with half of his Spanish international team mates already here :thumb

I agree with the previous poster who suggested Srna he is a real talent who I think would do great for us. I also think that if everyones fit our starting XI is top notch and its more cover we need for the likes of torres and arbeloa. Johnston could be a good shout if pompey go down. What about Michael Owen as cover for Torres, he is out of contract and we would need him to play every week like we did before which wud hopefully reduce the injuries. Wud he sit on the bench tho??? Certainly still better than Ngog as an option

Yeah, but as said above. Is a good striker gonna come just to sit on the bench and wait for Torres to get injured? We could play 2 up front against smaller teams but I don't think that suits us at all. We can't forget about N'Gog and Babel as well, they are good backups. God knows we have enough supposed superstars in the reserves too.

He wouldn't sit on the bench in a World Cup year. It is all about England for him. Same with Crouch.
