https://x.com/kaufsports/status/1707501241813590158?s=20 I didn't realise how expensive MLS tickets already are (not surprising given other American sports I guess) but it seems that Inter Miami are profiting off the Messi hype and have drastically risen prices for next season given the demand to watch Messi.
Does anyone think Major League Sfootball will ever get away from the inane North American Pro League Post-Season Championship Model? I.e., get away from competing for 6+ months, only to still allow half of your clubs to partake of the possibility of earning the league’s highest honor by winning the “playoffs” ? Perhaps if everyday fans had a bit more interest in the CONCACAF champions league, and recognized the names of non-USA football clubs, then finishing higher in the MLS table standings to qualify for that (but not for the more prestigious MLS championship title) might be workable and sellable. Won’t happen for at least another 20 years I reckon. In the meantime I will root for the 8th seed in the Eastern Half to win the Whole MLS Playoffs Shebang and Grab The Trophy to thereby allow discussion of the legitimacy and fairness of it all to better sink in.
Ya the playoffs in the US a a joke. Ams can half arse for most of the regular season and still win the whole thing in the playoffs. Very unfair on the best team for most of the season who top the league at the end. One bad game and they're out in the mls or nfl. A little fairer in their other sports where there is a best of a number of games in each playoff round
And now Wayne Rooney’s had enough of MLS. Leaving his DC United head coaching position, now that they are mathematically eliminated from playoffs…having 4 more losses than wins. But only just barely eliminated with such record, blimey mate! Heading back to England, but no specific plans or offers, he told the Washington Post. Sounds like MLS and Washington DC not his bag. Or maybe he found it too hard to pronounce either ‘Sfootball’ or ‘So…’ nope not sayin’ it!
