Left Roma this afternoon by mutual consent. Heavily linked to Arsenal since January. Probably the most recognised 'director of football' out there right now and expected to join Arsenal by the summer. He's worked with Emery before and found gem after gem at Sevilla. A long list of names can be found on the internet. But he does go through a lot of players. It's a high turnover every year under him but he does know how to get good fees for players.
His success and approach isn't suited to a club like United. He's all about finding low and selling high.
Massive coup if you get him he did the best deal of the summer imo getting money plus Davide Santon & Nicolo Zaniolo for an over the hill Radja Nainggolan...sold us Mo Salah on the cheap though
I'm sure some fans will be bothered, but I really couldn't give a toss tbf, it would've been nice to have him but not the end of the world, same with Sven.
No disagreements there mate, just I'm sure there's plenty of others that can do the job too, I'm not even sure what he did wrong at Roma that the fan's dont like him BH, they had massive FFP problems coming up and he got them out of that without them completely collapsing down the table in the league, selling your best players isn't an appealing strategy (Certainly not to me) but sometimes what has to be done has to be done.
So it's looking like Marc Overmars may be the man to come in now. He's been DoF at Ajax since 2012. I'd be all for it if he can bring Mattias De Ligt with him.
Thought both clubs had already discussed this earlier - with Ajax (unfortunately) giving a flat out refusal?
Possible further correction, Steve Morrow. Arsenal back to square one in search for technical director as Monchi reveals he rejected interest to return to Seville
A well sourced and respected Brazilian journalist has claimed Edu has accepted an offer to become Arsenal's 'technical director' once the Copa America is complete. Some other reports claim the deal has been in place since February and the ex-Arsenal man may have already been pointing Arsenal in the direction of certain targets. It would explain us moving for Martinelli and the heavy links to Antony as well. Edu is currently performing the role for the Brazilian national team after doing the job at Corinthians for 3 years. Finally, Kia Joorabchian is the man who set it all up if reports are to be believed. Some have already pointed out that his clients could begin being linked with Arsenal more regularly. He has a long history of transfers involving Brazilians.
Yes, saw that - good to know he's had some years experience in that role. (and Corinthians won the title in 2015 & 17). Hope he doesn't have that Brazilian aversion to Argentina etc., we could do with some tough defenders who can play a bit - so hopefully he can tap into available players in Uruguay, Paraguay, Argentina as well as Brazil.
Edu is confirmed. Edu joining Ljungberg by being back at the club. Finally doing what we should have done years ago and integrating members of one our most successful squads into the hierarchy of the club. Get Bergkamp back next
