    What happened on Dec9th 1900?

Serious, thx for opening the thread. Our "regular WC 2022 thread opener" Stret couldn't give a damn who else than England would reach the quarter finals so far ;)

And tbh I can understand him. Netherlands vs Argentina. A nightmare for a German. Too bad that someone has to advance to the semis. Argentina the "lesser evil" here for me, so I hope they'll win.

Will be supporting Netherlands on this one (sweepstake team + under dogs)

Nobody really wants to see Argentina win. Even if Argentina were underdogs I think you'd find most in this country would be backing the Dutch.

This fixture conjures up memories of this special moment...

    that pass... that goal...

For me, won't be supporting either team, but will be supporting players: Messi (3 more steps to immortality) and Virgil (to meet Hendo in the final).

I drew Argentina plus another in sweepstake. If if if they meet Brazil in the semi-final i want Brazil to beat them.

Think the Argies will nick this. Messi has found his missing mojo and while not playing to the high standard he enjoyed at Barcelona he is a match winner with wonder strikes.

Same. I got screwed in our family sweepstake and the Netherlands were the only team I have who have a remote chance of winning.

One sister in law got both France and Brazil, and the other got both England and Argentina FFS . There were others who did even worse than me though with most of the top teams being concentrated between those two.

When @Shane did the draw and pulled Netherlands and Japan out for me I was expecting maybe a shot at last place - to have both my teams in the final 16 has been quite rewarding :)

I don't like them as a team, and i'm not a Messi fanboy by any means but to see a player of his quality finally lift the World Cup would be nice.

Although Harry Kane not having won a single trophy in his career is just as remarkable and I'd much rather see that particular record ended.

I think Argentina will just about edge it, possibly on penalties.

The Dutch will win this ,they have the best manager in tactical terms and are playing this tournament like the Germans used to negotiate World Cups.

    Sorry @Dirk old boy.

The thought of Harry Kane having only one trophy to his name and its the World Cup would be hilarious.

Find Netherlands boring and LVG a knob (glad he's well though).

Argentina win for me. Seeing them v Brazil in the semis would be something else.

I expect Argentina to do whatever it takes to win. They have not looked spectacular and relied on Messi to make something happen but i expect a masterpiece in South American s***housery and don't think the Dutch will have much in way of a response

Nah, Red, this will end like the World Cup Final 1978. Messi will do a "Mario Kempes" and score 2 of the 3 for the 3-1 win ;)

Best game of the quarters for me. As dude said above, the dutch are playing like the germans (when germans win stuff): not exciting, clinical and cynical. I can see them taking Argentina out and even Brazil in the semis
