Thought I'd post it on here to get more attention.

Anyone notice that some/most players aren't playing with shinpads anymore? Have the rules changed in that respect? Not mandatory anymore? Pickford certainly didn't have last night and Grealish well, don't think he ever wore any...

    WHAT IS THIS MADNESS???

Players wear the micro pads now, lighter and all that. The rules haven't changed but there are no size requirements.

I understand it more now. If they're allowed to wear this then might as well toss the damn things.

In Sunday League football it was mandatory for a smoker to have a fag packet stuffed inside the sock. Doubled up as a shin pad plus could have a drag at half time.

Glenn Hoddle and Michel Platini never wore them. They looked super cool with socks rolled down.

Is that purely because they never smoked?

Socrates the Brazilian great never wore shinnies and he smoked.

He also played amateur football for Garforth Town so I bet he had a fag packet down his socks.

I reckon Jack Grealish has a crafty smoke at half time.
