Anyone else take these acid reducing drugs? Been on them a couple of weeks now because of gastritis/hiatal hernia, just read that people can end up taking them for years and years but the side effects can be pretty grim.

I've been on PPIs for about 5 years. Started on Lanzosprazole but it 'didn't agree with me' so was changed to Omeprazole and everything's been fine since. I have something called Barrett's oesophagus which is where the lining of the oesophagus is damaged by too much stomach acid. It can become cancerous, so I'm on PPIs for life now. :shrug

I was on Omeprazole for years for Stomach Ulcers when i was of a young age. After my diagnosis or Crohns i was prescribed Lanzosprazole but ive not really been taking them.

Never really had any side effects as such.. but upon reading up on stuff over the years, ive read that it has long lasting effects as it masks other problems etc.

Omeprazole is what I take that helps with the Crohn's - seems to control the levels of something in my guts that kicks off inflammation - works well for me with that

I’ve been on Lansoprazole for a few years now and they’ve just upped my dosage recently as well due to a few different things. Omeprazole gave me side effects. Lansoprazole just makes me a little tired at times.

Same as me. My oesophagus isn’t quite that bad atm but I also have an allergic reaction due to the damage now and it basically means I can’t eat without a drink as it gets stuck. I am soon to be starting a course of steroids for it. Hopefully helps.

Had to had a monitor down my throat for 2 days as well as endoscopies and various other tests. Pretty grim but I’m lucky.

A lad my age I used to go to school with (my mum is good friends with his mum) when I was very young had similar symptoms and did nothing. Passed away from oesophageal cancer about 5 years ago.

Omeprazole but only occasionally now. I tended to eat quite late and only 1 pillow when I slept. I’d sometimes get reflux not long after falling asleep. Not eating so much late and an extra pillow has pretty much sorted it out
